.. Ok , you don't have to do anything at all to your pc, stick to windows 7. What, you think everyone's going to drop support for it? Things still support XP for god's sake.
I know that...this might be Vista all over again..

it just makes me wonder where things are headed is all...I'm far from computer savvy but I still recoil at the thourght of being forced to used "dumbed down" teblet crap when I dont have or don't want a tablet
WHY ARE YOU ASSUMING THAT YOU'LL BE FORCED TO UPGRADE TO 8?
Because there're attempting to get it hard coded into the BIOS of new computers or something in order to combat "piracy." So if you get a new PC with 8 you can't downgrade back to 7 or put on a Linux OS.

I can't remember everything about it but, it's one of the main reasons Windows 8 isn't being considered for use in the University I work at.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Does your university not know how machines work? Microsoft doesn't tell motherboard manufacturers what to write into their BIOSes.

And besides, who exactly is forcing your university to buy Win8? Are they restricting sales of Vista/7 where you live?
I probably got it wrong, I wasn't particularly awake at that point during the meeting. But I stated that they were trying to screw around with the BIOS. And do you really believe that Microsoft wouldn't try to pull off someting as screwed up as this?

Of course. Because they realise that unlike the powers that be at your university, the average consumer isn't an idiot. People won't buy stuff that does the crap you're describing, if they did, they'd buy a Mac anyway.

It seems like in your head, you reckon Microsoft would be the kind of people who'd throw away sales just to be evil, like some fucking cartoon villain from Captain Planet.

In a way, you are bth right. Microsoft requires manufacturers' BIOS to support "Secure oot", that only allows certified OSs to be installed and executed. Which certificates this accepts, however, is up to the manufacturers, and it can still be disabled anyway, except on Win8 ARM tablets, restricting those tablets to Win8 (just like an iDevice is restricted to iOS and an Android teblet to Android)

While I can understand some reasons for getting a Mac(better for creating pics/songs)
You know, I would really like someone to finally explain why Macs are supposed to be better at that, because so far I found their general interface layout cumbersome at best, and have not noticed any difference in terms of quality between a Mac and a PC running similar software performing the same task. In fact, my 280? netbook has a better colour reproduction and viewing angle than any Macbook I saw so far. And it does nt have one of those crappy glossy screens.

With 8 gigs of ram and 2 video cards, I laugh in the face of those who tell me that macs are better at editing.

I don't know exactly why this is the case, but I found it easier to work on a mac with this kind of software. Also, photoshop and similar programs seem to crash less on MacOS.

Still, it isn't really an argument for me to run it/getting a mac.

I honestly want to understand why Apple gets so much hate. I just don't get it. Someone care to explain?
Its not the products themselves for me, even though I don't particularly like macs. Its the damned hipsters/mac fanboys that ruin them. Look, I get that macs are far superior for editing, music mixing and what have you, but if you're a freshman political science major going on and on about the superiority of macs when all you do is write papers with it, I just want to scream.

TLDR: The sense of superiority lots of mac users have for owning/using one when they don't utilize what its best designed for.

OP: I like PCs. Grew up with them, never had a problem that couldn't be fixed and for what I have paid for my 2 computers, I could own two-thirds of a mac.

A Mac is a PC. I type this running Linux Mint 12 on a PoS HP laptop. Poll invalid.
Im tempted to swap over to Linux or at least run it in tandem to Windows7. How hard is it to get into going from Windows?

Also PC. Apple products themselves are incredibly overpriced, and I see no need for their OS since it has a ton of stuff it isnt compatible with, and I haven't seen a good reason at all in favor for it.

Mac, definitely. I used PC's all my life until last year when I bought an MBP. Don't think I'll ever look back.

PC... just cuz that's what i was raised on, and that's what i know my way around... there's really nothing more to id. i am a digital artist, so "upgrading" to mac has occured to me, but really, the whole "macs are better for art application" thing is outdated. provided you have the right kind of PC, there's really no difference anymore in that department.
Absolutely, the whole better for music or video editing is just not true any more, assuming your PC is properly speced for what you want to achieve.
I think that depends on how you see it. Many of the programs (apps) used for those things are developed for the Mac, such as the Logic suite. Probably because a lot of developers still prefer the platform, and of course because Apple sometimes straight up buys the entire companies making the software (again, Logic).

That being said, I don't mean that Mac's are the only choice for an artist. I just think that this particular image isn't likely to go away for a long time.

Nobody ever considers linux. Such a shame, Ubuntu is very user friendly and Fedora is just plain fun.

I realy don't see the point in apple hardware, perhaps it's easier for someone who is unable/unwilling to learn the basics of computer maintenance to go visit the "geniuses" when they inevitably install something decidedly dodgy & bork their system.
Don't even get me started on their marketing strategy & pricing policy. Vote with your wallets doesn't mean what a lot of people seem to think it means.....

Isn't Windows 8 just Windows 7 redesigned for tablets & touchscreens?
If so, what's the problem with sticking with 7 until a viable alternative is developed?
Just wondered.

PC: because I'm poor, resourceful, a tinkerer and more technically inclined.

Mac's 'personality' is superficial, it's prettier, more convenient and probably more pleasing but it's also an actor you pay to be your girlfriend. When's the last time you got the opportunity to touch her RAM or clean her motherboard?

I think I just started something big.

There have been a lot of "under the hood" improvements between both systems. Windows 8 uses a lot less RAM than Win7, for example, due to tricks like memory combining (reduced memory redundancy by crosslinking sectors) and application-specific hibernation (the program is frozen, its state saved to the disk, and can be reactivated quickly when needed).

PC. Macs are infuriating to use, unstable and about 10 years behind Windows in basic OS security. They are over priced, have compatibility issues with older programs, have almost no gaming support and their OS is loaded with useless eye candy and gimmicky gesture support. There is nothing that further denotes what is wrong with the tech world than a Mac.

The argument I hate most from Mac users is "I had a Windows laptop and it was so badly built, and really unstable and I just had a bad time with it. My Mac Book is so much better". Yeah, that might be because your Windows laptop was a £300 Acer one running Vista, compared to a £1200 Mac Book. The comparison is as null and void as you can get.

Ugh, most Mac users make my blood boil, their ignorance to just about everything in the tech world is utterly infuriating.

Oh, and for the record, Windows 8's interface is the best I've seen in a long time. Both the tablet centric "tiles" one, and the re-designed desktop. Most people hate it for the sake of hating.

You very nearly just made me explode. Go over the Build conference video MS did when they first debuted Windows 8. You'll soon see Windows 7 being left very firmly behind. If you want to stick with 7, go ahead, it's great, but don't instantly dismiss 8 like that.

PC for sure. Not the biggest fan of apple as a company, and as a PC gamer its a pretty easy choice.
