See, the shower I would pee in has basically just a drain in what is the - in the shower area very slightly inclined - bathroom floor. So, nah. I'm not pissing on the floor.

A shower with a proper tub? I don't see a problem.

I've been thinking about this recently, thought I'd get some Escapists' opinions on it. Is it okay to pee in the shower? Do you pee in the shower? Would you consider peeing in the shower? And what do you think of those who do...?

I'm totally okay with it, but man, I'd hate to live with someone whose personal hygiene is so strict that they'd hate to find out that I do. What about you, Escapists? Is peeing in the shower okay? Or is it totally gross?

I think a lot of people here think urine by virtue of being waste has unsanitary amounts of bacteria in it. It was my understanding that healthy urine is for the most part sterile. Other then social norms urine is probably one of the cleanest substances in your body.

Candirusporis gives 3 google results, none of them reputable. The fact that the article perpetuates a known myth about the Candiru throws it into enough disrepute. As for the second link, only if you have AIDS or a terrible bladder infection. It's a lot cleaner than what you're washing off of yourself.

Seriously, the water that goes down sink and shower drains is classified differently than the waste water from your toilets, and undergoes different treatment processes. Basically, you're peeing into the water that will be treated as if it had only been used for washing dishes and clothing, not as if it were sewage. You're hurting the quality of your own future shower and drinking water. Besides, don't most bathrooms you shower in have a toilet? Is it really so hard for you to use? I do indeed. But people who do not partake of peeing in the shower, just know that that it's not like we shower pissers just let it run down our legs. I mean you still gotta aim and whatnot, if I smidge touches my feet it's no biggie.

In that same water goes stuff like shower gel, antibacterial soap and the dirt you wash from your body and clothes. Urine is probably by far the least harmful stuff that gets in the water. It's not toxic or anything, it's liquid with water soluble by-products from the body.

I'm appalled at how most of you seem to think this is acceptable.

If you live alone then I guess you are free to be as gross as you want in your shower.. but if you share that shower with anyone else, peeing in it is absolutely disgusting and inexcusable.

How so? Pee is sterile at first and so long as it's not the very last thing you do, all trace of pee is washed away by the time you are finished in the shower. You put more bacteria in the tub by bathing than you do by peeing.

No I can't ever see myself doing it.

When I get up I go to the toilet, THEN have a shower, so I'm never in a situation where I need to go whilst showering.

I'd also rather people not do it if I lived with them, but ignorance is bliss in that situation. If I never find out it wouldn't ever bother me.

I don't see what's so difficult about going to the toilet BEFORE you step in the shower.
Don't even give the lazy bs of 'well they're not in the same room, so I can't be bothered', you're a lazy git, and it makes no difference. My toilet is separate from the bathroom and you know what? I just walk into the toilet first, then into the bathroom for my shower.

and if you absolutely MUST piss in the shower, go directly into the drain.
Not only does the shower smell like piss otherwise, it's the nastiest thought even to hold.
