You know the phrase "innocent until proven guilty?"
I live by "All people are dicks until proven otherwise."

And it works.
Which is strange, because I live by the exact opposite - You have my trust and respect until you do/say something to lose it - and that works just as well.

To each his own, of course.
I'm generally the same way, and as such I get screwed over more than I can remember.

This Escapists experience is that people are inheirently good, and that goodness sometimes becomes tainted by others' cynicism, humor, crude humor, cynical crude humor or bad movies/video games.

There probably would be much less worldsuck if there was no such thing as a misanthrope.

Actually, it isn't the intelligent and strong who survive. It's the ones that most other people care enough about to help and/or see it in their personal best interest to help. Lots of intelligent folk are terrible survivors, and strong folk are no better. In society today, the survivors are the ones with the best networks. They can be total idiots and physically disabled and still be one of the most successful people in our society.

I'm an avid bicyclist, and use it to work out after work. I have a 10 mile rout that I follow like clockwork, and I keep out of the way of traffic for mine, and their safty. But, nevertheless, people suck.

I was ejected from my bike this evening, and flew something like 5 feet to the gravel path at the side of the road. I know that after I hit the ground, 5 cars on the road adjacent to the path immediately passed me. Not a one slowed down, stopped, or asked if I was even still alive. I was just laying there for a while, concious that there were people out there passing by.

I eventually pulled myself together. I walked away from the whole thing with a few bruises, a banged up knee, and a skewered pride. I was more pissed that people didn't seem to care, than being flung from my bike.

Anyway, people suck. Do you have a story you'd like to rant/share?
That happened to me, but I must've just been lucky. Someone gave me a lift to school (where I was going, handily it also had an infirmary for first aid etc) and someone else took my bike the rest of the way (it wasn't that far though). To those people, I am thankful. I'm still not sure whether that's the exception or the rule.

Yes. People suck. I have to deal with them all the time at work. So I'd like to specify that... Dumb shits for people suck. Holy God. Okay so today at my job (Five Guys), it was close to closing time, but people still kept coming in. It was so busy today. Apparently when the weather starts hitting 80+ degrees, we spend money on burgers and fries. ANYWAY, there's an old lady that I hate that runs register sometimes. She said that she was gonna empty the trash. As soon as she went out back, a flood of more customers are coming in. Mind you, sandwiches aren't being made cause that was my job.

Get this.

She saw more people coming in the door as she was gonna empty the second trash can and KNEW I had to get the sandwiches ready for the customer. She went back to take her sweet ass time to empty the other trash can! I had to hurry the customers along so I could run back and get their sandwiches put together. Then when she finally got back, she had her normal nasty attitude when people wanted to order their food.

I dunno why this evil ***** still has a job with her nasty attitude towards both the customers and her co-workers...but she does. I rarely wish ill on people, but her falling and possibly breaking a hip actually put a smile on my face.

God. She was such a *****. I won't even get into the last time I was at work. Every dumbfuck of New Jersey called and came in the store. They knew I was there, so they decided to make my life a living hell with their stupidity.

Sigh.
Any chance you work in a place called Cosi?

I have a story similar to this. I was at work with one other guy. A third guy starts at 3:00pm and he strolls in with his friends at like 2:50, sits down and chats. Which I'm totally fine with. But then, the fucking Dark Knight lets out and a hundred people walk past my store and I'll say about forty walk in. ALL AT ONCE! Anyway, me and this other guy are doing our best to deal with this mob and this son of a ***** that starts at 3:00 just sits there and chats it up! But don't worry, me and my dude held it down and banged out all of them in eleven minutes. So then this douche gets up and is like "Well...I guess I'll start now" with a big ass smile on his face.

However, the time was 3:01 and I was shift leader. So my exact words to him where

"Nah motha fucka. Do you see that clock? It's 3:01...you're late! Go the fuck home!" Then I talked it over with the manager later and he was fired the next day. Don't worry though, he was one of those people that no body loves anyway. =D

I disagree: some people suck, most people don't. What does suck however is misanthropy. Just don't be so pessimistic and...

In my defense, I'm only misanthropic because just about every example of humanity I've met has proved to me that they deserve it.

People do not suck.

How can you make such broad generalisations?

As the character Salomon Tauber (The Odessa Files) said: "Peoples are not evil. Only individuals are evil."

I find people to be on the whole, good, as long as you're good to them. It's a two-way thing, and it follows the basic philosophy of you "you only get out what you put in". Of course there are some truly good people who are kind, charming, concerned, etc as oftenas they can be, but the majority of people have the capability to be good if we'll only let them.

Anarchemitis has the definitive answer, yet again.

There are no innocents. Only people with a varying range of guilt.

Also, every day I drive my bike though the town I hate most of the people I see. Idiots that don't see where bike roads are and aren't, stupid kids that run around ASKING to be ran over and of course, old grannies that can't decide which side of the road they want to use.

Yeah dislocating a knee isn't a fun experience even in the best of times.

I went interstate to an athletics competition to represent my state at the schools national athletics competition. Warming up for my first race, I dislocated my knee. One of my team mates casually strolled over and asked if I was alright. Writhing around on the ground, I couldn't even give her stupid question a coherent response.

Eventually I was forced to limp myself to the first aid room. No one helped me. Even one of the women in charge of the girls team just shrugged when I asked for ice.

After sitting in the vacated first aid room for over an hour waiting for help, I gave up and had to buy a bottle of cold water with my own money to put it on my knee and relieve some pain. Turns out there were no first aid people there that day.

I spent the day in pain, constantly buying bottles of water to cool the swelling. Eventually the competition ended and we caught the bus to the airport to fly back home. One of my training partners boarded an earlier flight.

During the wait, I sat on the floor, trying to keep my knee cool so it wouldn't hurt so much. Boys playing hacky-sack nearby were too busy aiming for my head to notice I was not laughing like they were about the situation.

Then following delay after delay at the airport, the airline decided to put us out of our misery and cancel our flight until the next day. I asked a team physio for some pain killers and he had none. I then bought another cold bottle of water from a vending machine.

The following day, we checked in and I asked the man in charge of the team if I could get an aisle seat because bending my leg was too painful. He said there was none avaliable. We borded and he had an aisle seat. If I wasn't busy holding another bloody bottle of water to my knee I would've punched him in the back of the head... with brass knuckles.

I arrived home, still hobbling. Finally when I got home I iced my knee but by then the swelling was still pretty bad. I saw a doctor in half the time it took me to get proper ice on my knee. I ended up on crutches for a while.

My problem, in contrast to the OP, is bicyclists themselves. They never obey the street rules. They zip out in front of me, zip between lanes without signaling, never stop at stop signs or street lights, go on and off the sidewalk whenever it suits them, never hand signal, never brake, never act like a car when they're supposed to, never act like a pedestrian when they're supposed to (bikes, depending where they are, are required to adhere to one set of rules or the other, not just do whatever they want) and generally act like jerks.

Every time I hear another story of a dead bicyclist in our area, I just assume they finally got what they had coming. I'm amazing there are any people still alive to ride bikes in my area.

"People Suck that's my contention" - Bill Hicks

Yes everyone agrees, because they do suck, and the sooner the earth is purged of their suckiness (except those 2 I care about) the better!

Dude, I got beaten up once. I don't mean just happy slapped, I mean REALLY battered and hospitalized, by two fuckards who were doing it for a laugh. This happened right on the junction of Balls Road East and Borough Road, and Borough road is the main through fare through the south end of our town. Literally a hundred cars went past while this was happening, not one stopped or even beeped their horns.
