I still have a functional N64 with a few good games. Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Paper Mario and Super Mario 64 to be exact.
I still never truly beaten 3 of those games. But what I can say is that PD was insanely fun, and they did an outstanding job.
Honestly, I don't remember the last time someone made such a great multiplayer suite. Not only did you have tons of exciting modes (4 player split screen, 2 player co-op (player or bot friend), 2 player Counter-op (genius by the way!), plus all those other MP modes. Then you had character customization, tons of Bot options (yes, bot support! With multiple players!), and a ton of game options, even stuff no one thinks about like customizing who gets to choose what map when someone wins or losses or something. Then there's the fantastic gameplay with the awesome guns that were pretty balanced, some great map designs along with some Goldeneye maps/weapons...
And it's not just the multiplayer, as the single player was also awesome. They provided the classic 3 difficulty levels per mission that not only changed the difficulty of the AI, but also adjusted things like additional objectives, new areas/placements, etc. Then they had those secret missions, and then they had challenges for you to unlock cheats (A ton of them were speed runs though).
Oh, and then they had the awesome "menu". There's the main menu for getting into MP and stuff, but then you can log out of the computer and walk around the Carrington Institute! Freaking awesome man. Travel around to different areas to take on challenges, ranging from weapons to scenarios and stuff.
Did I mention the ridiculous amounts of options and stuff no one thinks about? Hell, you could even access the soundtrack (the audio was also good) for you to listen to in the game!
This is the N64 era we're talking about people, and some of these stuff outclass what we see today!
I could go on but PD was one of the best games ever made on the N64. I have no doubt the remake will be awesome, but as of right now there's no reason for me to get it.
