http://www.gunnars.com/ - Read through the site, expect to maintain a raised eyebrow

So, what they're selling are glasses that are supposed to "Reduce eye fatigue" and enhance your gaming performance.

This sounds completely made up, does anyone here own a pair of these things?

So far I've gathered that they are:

Light, but not lighter than no glasses
Impact resistant, in case you frequently faceroll the keyboard
Low optical distortion, so it's approaching the "No glass in front of your face" feel
Supposedly make you blink more so your viewing experience is enhanced by the fact your eyes aren't shriveled.
Expensive as hell.

Is there any actual science to support that these are actually useful to gamers other than the old trick of giving your tech trendy names like i-AMP lens tech?

I do have a pair and I got them really cheap, like $60NZD, they do help a little.
Don't hate on something you've never tried.
They are great if you get dry eyes or irritated, like what I'm doing to you right now. My eyes do get strained after a while, thats why I have a pair and I needed to look like a more of a dick. Lets be honest these things only look good on Travis Touchdown.

I've seen these on another website, they supposedly filter out the blue lights that cause more strain on our eyes than other colours (presumably something to do with the higher frequency), as well as filtering the glare. From what I can tell, wearing a $10 pair of sunglasses with reduced tint would work just as well, but then so would turning down your monitor brightness just a tad.

They work just as much as any filtered eyewear would.

They aren't special. They are, essentially, normal sunglasses. They reduce incoming light so you're not frying your retinas. Also the claim about creating more humidity in front of your eye? Not so much. It sounds nice though, since when watching TV or reading on the computer, you actually blink less.

Overall, not worth the price. They only work because most sunglasses would work the same way (with little difference) ...and really who wears sunglasses at the computer anyway? Niche market filled and exploited.

I've said it before and I shall say it again.

Only 2 kinds of people wear sunglasses indoors, blind people and dickheads.

I could imagine the conversation if I got a pair.

Me - "Hi honey, do you like my new pointless gaming sunglasses?"

Wife - "No, you look like a twat"

Me - "Oh. Kids, how about you guys, does your dad look awesome as he sits down to game"

Kids - "No dad, you look like a fool"

Common census from the normal folks .... gaming sunglasses make you look like a tit.

Lets question those "scientific facts" aswell shall we?

I've been gaming for 26 years and have perfect vision. I also work on a PC for my job for many hours.

My eyes are fine.

I have instantly proven that this pointless waste of money is not needed. Unless you are the type that believes any old bullshit you read.

The only pair that looks good to me are the $150 ones and I'm sure as shit not paying £90 on glasses that probably won't change my experience by a significant amount.
