Hello and welcome to the skies above Europe during 1939-1945. It is World War II. You are a pilot.

[HEADING=2]Please choose your side and your favorite aircraft.[/HEADING][footnote]The force with the most votes wins the popularity contest :D[/footnote]

Please spoiler your pictures. This can be done by posting like so:
[*spoiler] Your picture goes here [*/spoiler]
Remove the * and you are on your way.

Here is my pick:

I just love Spitfires and the RAF for kicking the Luftwaffe's ass repeatedly.

Anyway, your turn fellow history lovers. Take to the skies and bring your favorite force to victory!

[sub][sub][sub]I included Italy and France for those who like the underdogs. I know they did terribly ;)[/sub][/sub][/sub]

EDIT: The poll (which clearly fled the scene) is as follows:

1) Luftwaffe (Germany)

2) RAF (Britain)

3) Red Air Force (Russia)

4) USAF (United States of America)

5) Regia Aeronautica (Italy)

6) Armée de l'Air (France)

[sub][sub][sub]I hate it when the poll abandons me...[/sub][/sub][/sub]

Spitfire, and RAF, obviously. Why?
Because I live in the little town where the Supermarine Spitfire was designed.
And also modern hovercrafts, but that's something else...
Edit: Also, your poll is AWOL.

Well, while most of the airforces had their positives and negatives, I'm going to have to go with the US Army Air Corps and the P-51 Mustang. Why? So I can use this clip, of course.

I'll take this.

I'm pretty sure this:

would shut down your operation. We're talking Europe buster :p
You said WWII. You weren't specific if you were looking at Europe or Pacific.

I reread the OP.

Also, a plane like the Enola Gay wouldn't fly unescorted in territory where they'd get involved in dealing with enemy aircraft.

Give me the Luftwaffe's aircraft and tactics and Lockheed's production facilities.

I love the Messerschmitt BF-109. Just a beautiful death machine.

The French were knocked out almost immediately. The Blitzkrieg was incredibly effective at what it did.

The RAF is my favourite air force, but I've got a few favourites planes including the Hawker Hurricane and the de Havilland Mosquito, however my absolute favourite is the Hawker Tempest.

Personally I am stuck between the Messerschmitt ME 163 Kommet. First jet airplane that was used until the Brits come up with the Gloster Meteor. I am also in love with the Messerschmitt 262 Schwalbe. Another great jet that was more practical and safer for the pilot than the Kommet. The Mustang is a great plane, as was the Spitfire, but they wouldn't stand a chance against these monsters, mostly because of the speeds.

I purposely excluded it as this is a war in European airspace.

Armée de l'Air (France), because you only need fight for 2 weeks, then you can spend the next 6 years on your arse complaining and drinking wine.

good times!

i understand that, as you need to add too many more countries if you include the pacific theatre, but surely the US airforce fought in the pacific as well? ;-)
