Sup guys. Was just wondering whether I should play through DA:O before starting Dragon Age II, mainly because I don't want to miss anything regarding the background, characters, and lore. I heard you can still jump in and have an easy understanding without having played Origins, but what kind of impact, in terms of gameplay and story, will it have if I don't? Appreciate it.

As an added afterthough, I probably won't be slinging any extra Jacksons for all the DLC either unless there's a GOTY edition out.

It's not *necessary*, but you'd have the whole background beforehand. The carry-over is basically a joke, so don't do it solely for that, though. (I haven't finished DA2, so it may be better than I think, but so far I've had one reference to the events of DA:O, about one third through the game.).

It would give you more back story to what's happening outside of Hawk's personal story. You don't even have to beat Origins, just get about half way through and you should know everything that you "need" to know for 2 but it's not exactly "needed".

You'll be fine without playing it in terms of story, but if you have the urge make sure you play DA:O first; a lot of the mechanics will become near unbearable in comparison!

In my opinion, it's worth it to play Origins first for the background on the world and so you can understand some of the events referenced in DAII. The carryovers from uploading Origins data into DAII aren't really worth it, though.

I wouldn't bother, there's little to understand from the first game that isn't pretty much self explanatory. And the first game, to me, wasn't near as fun.

The first is crap and from all accounts the second is worse, if you haven't bought them already then save you money and buy a decent RPG.

But Reckoning won't come out 'til 2012 and this is one of those rare instances when frankly, I have money to spend.

DFragon Age Origins was a great game. I loved it. I would say play it (there is an ultimate edition with all the DLC) but I dont think you need to play it before DA2. I highly recommend it though.

It's not necessary, but it does give you a lot of chances to point out direct references to the old game and smile at the cameos of the old party members.

The world-building is pretty solid in DA2, but you'd have to read huge chunks of the Codex to catch up on everything.

Background, characters, and lore don't much matter, mostly because the "threat" and the "priorities" of the two games are entirely different. There simply won't be much that you feel you're missing from conversations and the like.

As far as impact, not only is it laughable to begin with, but you get to choose 3 pre-set origins imports if you don't have a custom, so you should see the (1) unique cut-scene it offers regardless, provided you choose the right import.

Finally, DA:O is a slow paced death march. If you're more of a ME2 player, you're better off sticking to DA2.

Last word of advice, stick to playing a Warrior and siding with the Templars at every opportunity, game was written for that pathway and as such, way less glaring plot holes.
