Okay, I know this topic has probably been already made, but I would like to make it again so I can get everyones ideas now. What is better the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3, also when your answering don't use the argument that Xbox has Halo and Gears of War because I couldn't give two shits about those games, this is solely based on the online play, graphics, cost, internet cost, game price and pretty much everything besides what games are available on the console.

So give me your intelligent answers on what I should buy. Yes, this forum is going to determine if I should buy a PS3 or Xbox 30, so don't screw me over escapist.

It's not mentioned in the new forum rules; but versus-threads are frowned upon 'round here.

Actually, I shouldn't even be responding to this, but I feel I should inform you about this.

Screw those consoles, get a PS2, win.
But it's not a versus thread, it is just which one should I get, it is more of a Something or Something thread. Is this still okay?

For one, you're not asking which one you should get in the OP.
And "Object A or Object B?" is pretty much the definition of a versus-thread.

And, if you really need to know which one you should get, you can just search up one of the older threads on the topic.

Edit: And where did the old forum-rules go? I thought the new ones were just an add-on; but apparently, they have replaced the old ones.
Now, new users will not be informed that we do not like vs.-threads and repeat-threads.

I said 360 purely because it's more populated online, so if you want to play a somewhat unpopular game you'll have a much better chance of finding people to play against.

so pretty much everything except the most important factor in deciding which console you want?

there is no right answer, everybody knows that.
How is that the most important factor? The best games go over both consoles, it's just a few game companies who want to be stubborn and only make games for one console. When games are only made for one console they're usually game that are okay but not great, Halo franchise, Gears of War all of these are above average but not great.

I voted PS3. My reasoning for this is you mentioned internet cost and graphics. To the best of my knowlege, you can still play online over PSN for free, whereas XBox Live Gold will cost you. Then the graphics. Don't get me wrong, the 360 looks every bit as amazing as the PS3 for the cross-platform games (possibly largely due to the fact they make the game for the lesser format - Dual Layer DVD - then port it over) but the exclusives are where it shines graphically. Just to be clear, I'm not bashing one or the other. I own both and use them regularly. Hope that helps.

LISTEN UP, CAUSE I'M ONLY GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE...

Neither console is better!

This is entirely subjective.

If you would like to find the best console for you, have a look at the pros and cons of each system and choose the one that fits your needs best.

Personally, I like a lot of the exclusives/early releases that Microsoft picked up, and had some great experiences with the marketplace on my friends 360 so I picked that. However, if I had a PS3, I'd be pretty fuckin happy too.

You really might as well have started a thread called "Poll: England vs. United States".

But yeah, just make sure you know the results of this poll are going to mean absolutely nothing.
A. England Wins. B. I'm looking for the Pro's and Con's here, most websites are either bias or aren't really informative enough, some say PS3 has better graphics some say Xbox, I have got no idea, so i'm asking the escapist what their opinion is and which one they prefer and why.

All that and you don't have an "other" option

ALWAYS HAVE AN "OTHER" OPTION!

What the ideal option is highly dependant on other factors.

For example, do you like halo. That's a pretty freaking huge factor, right there with it a main reason to own the console, without a significant love of halo there is little reason to own a 360.

Also, what about other platforms as yet unmentioned are might they own?

For example if they have a gaming PC there is much less reason to own an Xbox 360, as most "Xbox Exclusives" are actually on PC and BETTER on PC. The likes of:
-CoD2
-Quake 4
-Call of Juarez
-Prey
-Supreme Commander
-Gears of War 1
-Left 4 Dead
-Mass Effect
-Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
-Velvet Assassin
-Left 4 dead 2
-Section 8
-Metro 2033
-Mass Effect 2
-Splinter Cell Conviction
-Fable 3

That leaves basically Halo (3, ODST and Reach) and Gears 2 and I guess Forza 3 as sytem sellers for Xbox 360, not going to deliver that much value.

So if you have even a remotely competent Gaming PC (Dual Core anything and some sort of dedicated graphics card) then 360 is a poor choice. Far better off with a PS3, opens up a wider selection of exclusives but I'd say get a PS3 FIRST, really you're going to have to get a 360 eventually, probably when they are cheapest.

Also beyond that PS3 and 360 have differentiated a lot, PS3 has gone one way with Move and 360 the other with Kinect. I know which I prefer but it should be obvious to any user which they might prefer.

Honestly, the most remarkable thing comparing the XBox360 to the PS3 is how similar they are. Do you want free online and a BluRay player? Pick up a PS3. Do you want more robust online and a slightly lower cost for the console itself? Get a 360. Basically every other difference is completely trivial. Well, except the exclusive games, but you've forbidden us to discus those, so whatever.

I don't really care, just flip a coin or something if you can't make up your mind. I don't know what you want, so I can't tell you which to get. I personally find that the 360 is better for my purposes, so take that as my recommendation if you must have one.

Or just buy a Wii. It's cheap and has free online.

360. It is generally better in all those departments except having to pay for Live. It has Kinect, better online, normally better graphics, it's cheaper, if you ever want motion controls, it will be cheaper if you plan to play with more than just yourself, game price is exactly the same, so uh, yeah.

BUuuut... Due to the terrible NPDs from last month, Sony is doing some deals on PS3s, so if you're doing that, now is the time to make a perch.

pc all the way.

There is pretty much nothing between them: they're basically the same graphics wise, they're similar in price, they each have their own share of console-only games, they both have their own motion sensor bundles. The only thing that the PS3 has over the 360 is Blu-ray.

If you want to look at stats then the PS3 just edges it because it has a Blu-ray player. But really your decision should be based on these three things:

Which console do most of your friends own? Pick that one.
If it's evenly split and you can't decide - which consoles controller fits you best? Pick that one.
If you still can't decide - do you want Blu-ray? Pick accordingly.

Having access to all 3 system through ownership or roommates, I'd say:

PS3 is great for single player gaming, exclusives, and non-gaming uses.

Xbox tends to have the highest quality multi-platform games for some reason. It is king at online play, and the kinect makes it arguably the best motion console..but only time will tell.

Wii has tons of nostalgic games to play with that are truly excellent. You can always count on it for the same type of fun you've grown up with as new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Kirby games seldom disappoint. It probably has the most diversity in games among all consoles but the least mega-hit games.

As a a single player focused gamer, I like all systems, but voted for the PS3. I've put the most time into that system.

I'm mostly a PC gamer myself, but I usually tend towards the xbox when wanting for a different platform. I've always found the PS3 controls over-responsive (although that may be just because I started with an xbox) and the blu-ray player always seemed unnecessary to me.

Motion control: While I've never really liked motion control, the Kinect is different from the PS3 move and wii simply because of the way it works. Even with the added space requirements I find it better than the move simply because the move is essentially an HD wii for $200 more, with fewer games. Give it some time to pick up speed and I'm sure it will be worth it, but as it stands, the move isn't that great.

Pricing: about equal value there

Graphics: Yes, the PS3 does slightly better graphics, but that doesn't really show through except in console-only games and blu-ray (that unnecessary promo gimmick)

Online play: I can't really say much about this one. For me, xbox Live has always been faithful, but without universal management (the reason for cost for live) I'm sure it would vary from game to game. You'd have to track down a game that is multiplayer on both consoles to be sure to get the best results on a PS3.

Online cost: Of course xbox costs to play online, but that is largely for the aforementioned stability it's totally worth it. Of course xbox didn't have built-in wifi until recently, but there are ways around that and it does now. I'd say fifty bucks annually is a completely justifiable expense.

Game price: Don't hold me to this, but I think PS3 games are usually slightly pricier or are about the same.

And yes, I do feel that the xbox has better console-only games. I hear the PS3 does racing games better, but I've never really been able to get into a racing game. Not when I can splatter grunts instead.

I suppose consoles can be compared to alcohol. The actual "consoles" are like beer. Just about everyone likes it and there's very little difference between brands. It's all a matter of branding and preference based on subtleties (except the wii, which, while still identifiable as beer, is a very different brew). Handheld consoles are like hard liquor. Kids do it everywhere. The PC is like wine. Not everyone likes it, it's certainly more expensive and you usually don't just sit down and play for a half hour.

All this leading to the inevitable meme:
I don't usually play consoles, but when I do, I prefer Las Xbox.
Stay eager, my friends.

A. There is an "other" option, take a second look.
B. There shouldn't have to be an "other" option considering this is strictly to do with PS3 and Xbox 360, an example: If I asked you which you like more Apples or Oranges, the question is strictly apples or oranges, I wouldn't need to put in an "other" option.
C. I'm not going to buy a console just because a game or two that I like are specifically for the console, it may be a factor in determining what console to buy, but it won't be a big part. Why wont it be a big part you ask? Because most games I would buy that are for specifically Xbox or PlayStation would in a years time be most likely forgotten, and new games would come out. Let's say I did like actually like Halo, the Halo franchise is basically over, if I go and buy an Xbox 360 so I can play the last two Halo games I might have fun playing them for a while, but I will find a new game that's better, funner and goes over both consoles and perhaps I would've preferred that on the PlayStation, but I would be screwed because I bought an Xbox 360 just so I could play two games.
D. I do have a computer I have been using for gaming, and it is good, so I will still use that for some games.
