The Playstation Move was fairly prominent during Sony's conference and Sony has a lot riding on the success of the Move as it serves as the company's entry into the world of Motion Capture gaming controls. Although Sony hasn't really tried to take an original approach to this method of gaming like Microsoft has, Sony has taken the standard set by the WiiMote and added it's own style and features; Making the second part of the Move controller wireless and adding a neat little light bulb that actually serves a purpose in the game other then to make it look pretty, and not at all like a certain female sex toy.
Personally, after a poor experience with a Wii I bought back in 2007 before the motion plus I was left with a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to motion control gaming. Controls were horrendous and games were lacking, and I was forced to stand up while playing my video games, which annoys me as a fairly avid gamer who can easily spend over 2 hours on a game in a standard session.
Prior to E3 the only thing I new of Move was the pictures I'd seen, it looked like an copy; albeit a better looking one, of the WiiMote. I just figured Sony wanted a part of that casual gaming pie(what company wouldn't?).
Move was introduced at E3 with a game I'd never seen before: Sorcery. The developer of the game showing off the demo then proceeded to show off the 1:1 movement off the Move before getting into the game, The character on the screen followed the users movements almost perfectly. Then he dived into the game, he started off by selecting an Arcane Bolt, which took the form of a small purple bolt, he pointed out that the light on the end of the Move controller also turned the same color. He began whizzing spells left and right at various enemies, easily switching between spells and showing off a fire spell that would fire in a wave if he slashed the wand horizontally, and then showed how you can draw a huge fire in the ground by pointing the fire spell at the ground and making a line. Then by switching to the whirlwind spell he was able to swirl the controller above his head and send the whirlwind through the wall of flames to take out every enemy in the room.
Needless to say I was impressed by the Move, it looked fluid and worked very well with the games showcased. Hopefully I can sit down on the couch and play use the move without having my character permanently crouching.
What was everyones first impressions on the Playstation Move and Sorcery?
