How do you play Pokemon games? Do you train every last creature or are you selective and lack the patience to train all five billion?

I like to stick to a small group of about 20-30 or 40, depending on my mood, because some are just plain useless (ah ha ha ha Bidoof) and some are so overpowered you don't NEED any others of that element type (Gyarados, I choose you to smack down Rock types, yo). So what's your playing style?

I'll train most of them a couple of levels for shits and giggles.
And when I say "Most of them" I mean "all of them"
And when I say "them" I mean Gen I pokemon (the original 151)
And when I say "train" I mean feed infinite rare candies and vitamins until their levels and all their stats are maxed out.

Seriously, my storage box on Pokémon Red was terrifying.

Meh WAAAAAY back in the day the furthest I played was Gold. I mean sure I had the whole infinite rare candied team back in Blue, with my mutated venosaur (thanks to some glitching) that could reach level 255 before resetting back to level 1 and that could learn any move. I taught the thing Fly which was HILARIOUS when I put it on Pokemon stadium for N64 and my friend was playing me. Venosaur used Fly! It flew up into the sky. And litterally the venosaur in the game levitated and hung there in mid air.

But I digress. Back in gold I pretty much trained up an elite team of 6 that let me counter any situation. I also used Pokemon like Ho-oh which could learn moves outside of their expected set. So when some fool deployed a water type to counter my Ho-oh (being a fire flying) I would hit it with Zap-Cannon and laugh.

So screw all of the rest, just get a Raiku, Ho-oh, Lugia, Feraligator, Tyranotaur and a Dragonite and you should be able to win anything with the proper move set on all of them.

WHY DO I REMEMBER ALL THIS?!

This post is epic win because the image of a Venusaur flying around in the air gives me immature giggle fits. Years later, when I heard how effin' GLITCHY the Generation I games were, I was pretty shocked, and finding out that you can get a legit Mew without using a cheat device baffled me more.

I would make a stacked team. Then just try and collect every single Pokemon and throw them in storage.

Bidoof is a great HM slave.

Given it even hits. Damn, I hate that move.

I train whatever I need; I favour a balanced team which I'll swap around when necessary to ensure they're all trained equally. If I'm up against a gym I just use one guy who's good against the gym's element, on occasion there'll be a backup guy.
Usually I use a ghost or psychic, sometimes both, my tier 3 starter depending on which version I'm playing, a flier, a rock and the local legendary pokémon, all four if I'm playing red, just one if it's anything else. by anything I mean pearl, the only other one I have. =)

Ugh I remember. You might hit 1/3 with that attack. But hey it was crazy when a it did hit.

Also, anyone else remember when you went up and down Sea Foam island in Red and Blue when you werent in the middle of the cloning glitch, you would run across all kinds of glitched pokemon and even get challenge by Professor Oak who had a couple Missing No.s 1 unique glitched and 2 messed up Chancies? That was always trippy.

I train my starter only. The only reason I even catch others is because I need them to use the HM's. And I catch Legendaries.

What do you do in the case of picking a Grass type, then, and getting torn apart by Water and Fire types?

My 1st run, I just trained my charizard and ran over the competition...then i switched gears and trained everyone equally so I could evolve and such...took forever but it gave me better choices for what team would be backing up charizard before each gym fight

I catch only 3-4 of them.

Fire.

Water.

Electro.

Earth.

And sometimes Ghost, Psychic or a Neutral one. So in any case, I'm prepared for anything.
