Poll: Pokemon lacking a 'lefty' mode.

I'm a rightie but I use my left hand on the touch screen during battles and only use the stylus to name my pokemon... it's a waste of time otherwise...

And in regards to holding buttons down, I hold B down and tap A during battles because it makes the text scroll faster... or it looks like it does... the fact that I hold these buttons down is also the reason I use my left hand to pick moves...

I'm left-handed but it doesn't bug me that much. It would have been nice if you could make your character walk around using the stylus though.

I got SoulSilver today for the UK release, and about 10 minutes in, you can tell that you could go through the entire game without have to press any buttons at any point, using only the D-pad and touch screen.

However, as I'm left-handed, I find it very awkward and uncomfortable to hold the stylus in my right hand, and can't really use it effectively with my left. I really don't think it would've been that hard to include a mode where the buttons (ABXY) worked as the D-pad. I'm wondering whether anyone else thinks the developers have missed something here.

Get yourself one of those thumb stylulses. Stylusi? Stylusis?

I hold the stylus in my left hand, and I never found it that difficult to play Diamond / Pearl. Is there something different in HeartGold / SoulSilver?

I've seen that. I think every kid who played those game had their own idea of what had to be pressed to catch Pokémon more effectively. Good times.

Enjoy them like the originals, with buttons and D Pad and thinking that holding down 'B' made catching Pokemon easier.

I held 'A' when the ball was thrown, then 'down' and 'B' when it hit the floor and started rocking.

I'm sure it's still a 100% guaranteed foolproof method.

Oh, my epic capture of Registeel proved it wrong. Oh so wrong. That took FUCKING HOURS.

I remember back when that marathon was on to catch all Pokemon in 72 hours for charity, the people playing took like 2-3 hours trying to capture Mewtwo. It was pretty fun to watch.

The hemispheres of the brain control the opposite side of the body. The left hemisphere is for logical stuff, and the right is for creative stuff. Your handedness is related to hemisphere dominance. Hence lefties are more creative, and righties are more logical. We are clearly superior.

Actually, that's not exactly true.
I'm leftie, but I'm far more logical than two of my closest friends (both right-handed) who are incredibly good artists.

It would be nice if they could make an option like in Metroid Prime Hunters, where you can change the use of the d-pad and the xyab buttons.
It would make the new HGSS more userfriendly.

I don't use the stylus, I use my fingers as I have a protective coating over the screen. My suggestion is that, it makes things so much quicker and easier. Also, you can't move your little character with the stylus I've found.
-edit- Also, if you're apparently going to try going through the game without pressing buttons... good luck getting anywhere without being able to talk to people.
You're better off playing it like the old games. I much prefer that way. I've always hated the stylus and touchscreen, except in FMA: Dual Sympathy. That games used the touchscreen well.
-edit- Scratch that... I just discovered the "check" button on the touchscreen, but my point still remains somewhat valid.

You can't really have a lefty mode in pokemon because the buttons also work and the D-Pad would feel wrong if yu ever used the buttons. I guess they could of included a lefty, touch pad only option.

I meant you use your left hand to move, and your right hand for the stylus, it can do everything else (including talk to people) on the touch screen. It can cut a fair few corners, and my point was that it would be so easy to allow you to move using the buttons on the right, instead of relying on the d-pad.

You make a good point about the protective coating though.

Nintendo might get some thumbs up from the accessibility community if there was a southpaw option. I don't know how the DS firmware works, but being able to mirror all the buttons (ABXY <-> DPad) at the OS level would mean left handed players wouldn't be disadvantaged and developers unaffected.

This seems like a fun project actually. I should see if there's DS documentation.

I'm right handed, and I also never use the stylus unless the game forces you to use it. However, I suppose it would be a useful option for those who do need it.

I mean, lefty mode for Pokemon? That's the HEIGHT of lazy. Honestly.

If I were in charge of making a Pokemon game, I would say specifically to the control design person thingy NOT to make a lefty mode. Even if he/she didn't ask.

Seriously. The D-Pad is BUILT for movement control. The buttons are built for... being buttons.

Besides! What's the harm in becoming ambidextrous? It's a total chick magnet.
