Poll: Pokemon Red/Blue/Gold/Silver vs Firered/Leafgreen/Heartgold/Soulsilver

FR/LG gave more content than the originals since they had Islands 1-6 whilst maintaining everything from the original and also having newer Pokemon in it. They also had the "upgraded" Elite Four to give you a harder challenge for when your Pokemon started hitting level 70 one shotting everything although if you got this too early you could hit a brick wall.

My opinion is pretty much bias (I favour Red and Gold over FireRed and HeartGold).

My reason is simply because there is no wow factor on FireRed and HeartGold for I had used them back in the first versions. When I mean wow I mean the sense of suprise of encountering the unkown i.e. encountering the new Pokemons, seeing night time and the daily events and heading back to Kanto after the Jhoto league.

Ok sure the remake added new features like those islands in FireRed and LeafGreen and added that Olympic and the lead Pokemon following you in HeartGold and SoulSilver but it wasn't enough to recreate that wow factor.

My opinion would be different if I had never play Red and Gold but instead play LeaftGreen and HeartGold for the first time to be suprise at the features in it.

Remakes, definitely. If only for the fact that they've made it so that whether a move is physical or special doesn't just depend on the type.
Then again, that's just in Generation 4... but FireRed/LeafGreen kinda beats the pants off of Red/Blue, anyway, if only because the gameplay is so much more balanced.

My only real complaint with HGSS is that Red is even harder now. I hate a Pikachu that can kick my ass.

Isn't that a good thing? Red was cake in Gold/Silver.

Yeah, I know, I just get annoyed.

i started off with Pokemon Blue and absolutely nothing can bring back the feeling of my first Squirtle but on the other hand my Gold version stopped working last summer. If you grew up with them like I did the originals will always have a special place in your heart. But I do love the remakes more.
