I'm hoping for a pure steel type that isn't useless, and maybe a couple of decent/durable partial ice types. Poison could do with some loving this generation too if you ask me.

Haha, durable ice type... funny joke that. Even Kyurem with his 125/90/90 defenses is super fragile with his typing. Possessing a resistance only to itself and having so many common weaknesses doesn't make for a good defensive typing...

Poison is in a similar boat, just instead of being a super-shitty typing defensively, it's just a rather... odd typing. Some more offensive pokemon geared for higher tiers would be nice though - I love my Drapion, but it tends to get destroyed pretty quickly when fighting the heavier hitters of the OU league.

Personally, I'm hoping there aren't too many evolutions for older-gen pokemon this time around - I really enjoyed Black/White's entire roster of brand new pokemon, so it'd kinda suck to suddenly have a big chunk of the pokedex filled with new forms of old pokemon.
I'd really like to see them make the Rattata-equivalent for this gen useful though - the Staraptor was the bad-ass version of Pidgey, but there still hasn't been a bad-ass version of poor Rattata.

Kyurem isn't even resistant to ice all ice brings is neutrality to ice and fire and a weaskness to rock fight and steel.

We needs an ice/steel type xD Or hell some ice types that aren't Weavile who have decent uses would be nice.

Poison I'd say is a decent defensive type but it's odd, it resists some nasty stuff like fighting and bug, and other less common stuff like grass and itself, which is more useful in lower tiers. The psychic and ground weaknesses are the problem.

Before the phys-special spliut of Gen 4 Weezing was a premier physical tank because it's ability and typing, and it's still good in lower tiers. A bigger issue for poisons is that their stab is fairly useless, resisted by a fair few things, immuned by steel and only SE on grass types and even then many grass types pack a good secondary to counter that.

I'd say poison is one of the types I find fun to play with but if I were to go to a tournament the only ones I'd consider are Toxicroak or Drapion really, MAYBE Garbodor for support and entry hazards, but Drapion is better at it.

The world definately needs a badass Ratticate, even though I do like Raticate I have to confess I used one in Leaf Green in game until around the 4th gym, it was great early on, fast and hit relatively hard, but once other stuff evolves around it it loses any edge very quickly.

Edit: Kyurem really does irritate me, it's far to easily vanquished. Reshiram puts it to shame in the contest for legednary destruction dragon.

It's also vulnerable to dancing moxiemence. But then what isn't?

While your intention is good for wanting us to keep up to date with Pokemon X and Y info, depending the gap inbetween the info (let say the next time we heard another X and Y info is 6 months times from here) it could be consider to be necroing the thread which is somewhat against the rules on here.

I kind of realised that the day after making this. At the time it was late and my TV decided to shit itself so I was pretty bored. I'm hoping info will come steadily though. It would seem a bit weird to have two announcements early on and then nothing for a couple of months.

I will update this when stuff is released but if the mods deem it as being a necro (not really sure what the standard is here) then so be it. I did this as more of a hope to prevent multiple threads popping up when info is released or just creating a thread that has one announcement and only a few comments compared to a collection of everything.

You know what would be great if they included in them above most else? A plot.

Pokemon White may actually be my favorite so far just because it had a story more complex than "Get starter, beat rival (several times), beat the gyms + get badges, stop Team Rocket/Team Rocket wanna-bes, beat the league, become champion". For the first time, beating the gyms/league seemed like a side quest in comparison to everything else going on. The Gym leaders actually did useful stuff at the end!

So yeah - a new and creative plot would be absolutely fan-freakin-tastic.

Oh, Mamoswine is pretty good - surprisingly quick and packs a pretty hefty punch. Fragile as anything, but Ice/Ground have absolutely no synergy with each other defensively.

Poison is a really good defensive type - hell, just look at Venusaur with it's Grass/Poison tanking and even Drapion with Poison/Dark can take hit really well. It's just... I dunno, Poison types don't feel very powerful statwise - outside Venusaur, I can't think of any that are in the upper tiers; Drapion just doesn't have the stats to compete with everything else, Toxicroak gets one-hit KO'ed really quickly and Weezing can still tank alright, but it's so easy to counter-wall with Steels/Immunity or KO with specials that it's just not worth putting on the field anymore.

I'd just like a poison type with stats similar to Drapion but with more speed and power - 90 attack and 95 speed aren't bad low-tier, but upper tiers you just can't compete with all the base 100/120s flying around.

And don't feel bad about using a Ratticate - I used a Furret for half of my Crystal game and Linoone was a staple in my Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald teams (Not for his Pickup ability either - could pull some surprisingly lethal headbutts when he needed to). Never touched Bibarel though. Poor bastard served as a HM slave and that was it.

I don't think anything can really compete with Reshiram in pure power at the moment... put that sucker in sunlight, give him a choice specs and he can one-hit KO Blissey with a special attack.

Fusion Kyurem forms are pretty good though - I've found out that using them on Trick Room teams gives them enough of a speed edge to use their 170-base attack stats very effectively. Stops moximence too - though your trick-Roomer might have to be KO'ed to guarantee Kyurem getting in unharmed (unless you can come in on a Dragon Dance, but odds of someone Dragon Dancing during Trick Room...).

Yeah I get what you mean poison just lacks that impact in the higher tiers it needs something like a bulky setup sweeper or something. Then you have poor bastards like Garbodor that just have messed up stats, Garbodor could be pretty lethal with it's attack stats swapped and a decent coverage move or two but no. Scolipede has some nice potential for damage and is fast as you like but it's also fairly fraily. I'd like to seee some bolstered ones.

Never paid much heed to mamoswine it's never really filled a gap for me. Idk, I just tend to pack an ice move on a Starmie or something, currently using a Milotic mixed wall set with ice beam/scald/mist/recover and that does me damn fine. The frailty of most ice types and the lack of good multitypes for it just puts me off. I have the same issue with my Chandelure it's great and DAT FIREBLAST but even with it's respectable defenses and bulk it's typing screws it over badly.

Linoone is pretty beast, Furret is a fine doubles pokemon but I find it lacking even early on and I'd rather use a Raticate until Tauros is available in HGSS. Bibarel I've heard good things but it just made too perfect an HM Slave and looked too dumb to even consider.

Yeah the forms are better but still without trick room it's got not much hope against a well setup salamence's outrage. It's been a while since I battle competitively though so things can change.

Really hope that Chespin gets good evos and a good secondary type and a movepool less barren than the Atacama desert.

With the Sylveon typing I originally thought it would be flying from the way it looks (parts floating around it) but from the video revealing it there didn't really appear to be any flying type moves and they all looked like they might be normal type attacks but that's just a guess because I could only recognise swift.

I see Sylveon using moves with strong resemblances to known Eevee staples: Quick Attack, Swift, Last Resort... and a billowing attack that looks suspiciously like Gust or Hurricane. I could be wrong, of course... assuming the visuals look in any way like the previous games' animations when generations tend to change up the imagery.

Below is a theory that popped up a week or two ago about the type of Sylveon (I'm not really a big fan of this theory but it is interesting). It suggests that each eeveelution has a pairing where each pair has one type advantage and the one left over was Jolteon which means Sylveon could be either flying or ground. The flaw I find in this is why did the person that came up with this leave Jolteon last? Why isn't Vaporeon it's pairing? Anyway, it is just a theory that someone has come up with.

There may be some more complexity to this theory, I think. Thus:


Flareon (fire) is strong against Glaceon (ice) and Leafeon (grass), weak against Vaporeon (water): 2-1
Vaporeon (water) is strong against Flareon (fire); weak against Leafeon (grass) and Jolteon (electric): 1-2
Jolteon (electric) is strong against Vaporeon (water)... 1-0
Espeon (psychic) is weak against Umbreon (dark)... 0-1
Umbreon (dark) is strong against Espeon (psychic)... 1-0
Glaceon (ice) is strong against Leafeon (grass); weak against Flareaon (fire): 1-1
Leafeon (grass) is strong against Vaporeon (water); weak against Glaceon (ice) and Flareon (fire): 1-2

Strangely enough, expanding the theory leaves Espeon as odd-eon-out, having no type advantages and one weakness.
Umbreon and Jolteon have no weaknesses and exactly one strength;
Vaporeon and Glaceon have one strength and two weaknesses;
Glaceon is the only one who breaks even, and Flareon is the only -eon with two advantages.

Based purely on this type dis/advantage data:
To balance Sylveon with the other -eons, it must be weak to Ice and Ice alone (among these types) while having no other type advantages (again, among these). This pairs off Glaceon with Flareon at 2-1 and Sylveon with Espeon at 0-1. That means, if I read the chart [http://serebii.net/games/type.shtml] correctly, that Sylveon must be the Dragon type.

But if it was Dragon type then it would be weak to Ice and Dragon not Ice alone.

Right, but it wouldn't be weak to any of the other Eevee-lutions, which maintains the balance "established" by that quick bit of research. It would, however, become the only -eon that doesn't resist its own type.

I'm still quite certain Sylveon is Flying type. I have no doubt of that. The question becomes, is it only Flying type? could this be the first multi-typed -eon? and if so, would they be so cruel as to make it Flying/Normal? or would they give it something like the actual Multitype?
