Chaos Theory.
Double Agent wouldn't even start on my computer (argh!) and Conviction was Gears of Sam Fisher 5: Halo Theft Auto 6: Elder Chapters. It just wasn't Splinter Cell enough for me. Or fun.

Agreed. No one can sound like granite and pull it off like Ironside can.

That said, I enjoyed the first 4. Haven't played Conviction yet.

1. Chaos Theory: Best story, game play and graphics.
2. 1st SC: Played it first, fell in love with it.
3. Pandora Tomorrow: Was good, but, some of the mission were iffy. Plus, they changed voice actors for Lambert. Blasphemy!
4. DA: Looked and played like CT. But, there was some action that felt forced. Also, it had to compete with CT.

Chaos Theory. By then, they had perfected the formula of the first two games. Some of the levels were great. I still love playing the tanker level.
The second level? That's the one I dislike most!

The bank level is my ultimate favourite.

...[small]I'm posting in this thread too much[/small].
You, Sir, win a sweet bakery of your choice, made by this Taffer.
Might contain nuts.
I just spent 5 minutes googling to figure out what 'Taffer' was (I did).

Also: Hooray! Nuts are fine, but no walnuts. I hate walnuts.

PS: I've played Thief 2, and all the Hitman games, loved em all; I guess it comes down to personal taste.

Are you yanking my chain?

Another batch of sweet bakery for that. No walnuts.

Back on topic: I used to dis Conviction. Hated it with a passion. And almost through a fit when I saw the Demo. But it surprised me at the end. Hated the story, hated the lack of stealth, but it was still fun and still had Sam. And now it's also got Archer, so yeah. /fangirl

Anyway.

Anyone not having even tried Conviction might be missing out on something that still provides entertainment, even if it went a bit astray from the original formula. And even if the story sucks. There, I said it again.

Ok, so looks like chaos theory is the best one, but just wondering, does the story really add anything? so could I play chaos theory first or, should I start with #1?

It sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember! I'm sorry! *shame face*

Give me a break, it's been 7 years since I played it and my brain has limited capacity.

As apology I return 1/3rd of the delicious bakery. And I forced myself to munch some walnuts.

*crunch* Good God, they're so awful! *crunch munch* Happy? *spit*

The rule is that odd numbers are best, so 1, Chaos Theory and Conviction are my favourites.

Out of those it's a tie between the first and third; Conviction's definitely still a stealth game but it's not really comparable to the others in the way it plays.

The Bank Heist! Anyone else's favourite level out of all of the games?
*raises hand* *raises both* *waves arms around like a madwoman*

Lambert, now that I have 50 millions bucks with me, it's time to talk about a raise.
Hmmm. 25 cents an hour and not a penny more.
Deal.

Splinter Cell's strong point isn't the story. It's the gameplay and the characters (though that being my opinion).
Of course its recommended to start at the beginning, and you might connect to the support cast better that way. But it really doesn't matter that much.
Sides. Story gets crap after Chaos Theory anyway. See. I said it again.

Yes. Very much. But you can keep the bakery. Its gross anyway.

At a sidenote: I like the collection of some of the avatars in this here discussion.

start- damnit, you stole my words!

What she said.

Plus, after you finish the first game, the third will seem so much better.

I did no such thing. How dare you accuse me!

*hides bag of words behind her back*

Anyway. I'm somewhat not looking forward to this discussion popping up again once the next Splinter Cell comes out. I quiver in my currently none-existing boots, wondering how they'll exploit poor Sam next time around.

I've only played Double Agent, so I won't vote. Seems pretty good though, although I don't like the base missions.

Chaos Theory by a long way, it's one of my favourite games of all time and it's one of the games that made me want a 3DS on launch day.

Chaos Theory without a doubt. It had a perfect combat system, the level design was great and it perfected Pandora Tomorrow's multiplayer. Not to mention the humour.

This is level of detail in an opening post is not usually considered acceptable for a topic as this is a forum, not a polling station. Just to warn you that the moderators may not like it.

Lotta people here are loving Chaos Theory, I should really get a copy of it. I've only played Double Agent and Conviction and Double Agent was easily my favourite.

Yes.

While I never did any of the competitive modes (I do not like competitive games, aright?), the Co-Op pieces have not disappointed me. Yet. The co-op story modes are actually integrated into the main plot that you follow in the SP campaign, which adds another level of depth to the them.

There's the aforementioned Co-Op campaigns.
There's normal co-op stealth play focused around eliminating targets.
There's versus modes (also spy vs. mercenary in the early titles).

Eh. Yeah. That should be it. As I said, no competitiveness for me.

And at the end of the day there is nothing more fun than hitting up Archer to infiltrate people's skulls with conveniently placed walls. That is a reference to the Conviction multilayer modes and does not actually have any relevance to the discussion.

That is all.
