What is your favorite mode of aiming in a FPS?

Crosshair/From the Hip/Hip-Fire like in Left 4 Dead, Unreal Tournament, and Counter Strike. Think most 90's/early 00s style of First Person Shooters. Basically you aim with a crosshair.

or

Iron Sights/Aim Down the Sight like in Call of Duty and similar games. Basically Realistic Late 00s First Person Shooters.

For this poll, assume that both Crosshair and Iron Sights are NOT in the same game.

Assume Accuracy is the same in both methods of aiming.

Personally I like Crosshair more since it is usually faster paced and a wider field of vision, but thats just my opinion.

Depends on the gun really, precision or low rate of fire weapons I prefer to aim, but fully automtic weapons I prefer to fire from the hip.

Hip Hop Hooray!

I've been playing different versions of CS for nearly a decade, so yeah. UT2004 is also very good...

But I really like ironsights too, if they fit the game. And if the game has those, there should be no crosshair. I've only played single-player on all CoDs, except Black Ops, so I don't know about that. But Battlefield: Bad Company 2 does that quite well (although I prefer ironsights, as said. Not infrared sights). Operation: Flashpoint had a good thing going, as well.

In other words:

fun/competitive FPS: crosshair

realistic/simulation: ironsight

Depends on the environment the combat takes place in. Shooting from the hip makes sense in most Valve games, for instance, because combat almost always takes place in close range. Whereas in CoD, especially the first 3, combat often takes place at larger distances which require very tightly controlled sights. That was why the BAR and MP44 were both so good. You could fire them from the hip at close range to medium range by slowly firing one shot at a time and switch over to iron-sights when you needed. Either way they were accurate weapons.

Overall, I prefer iron-sights as they give me the finest control over my shots.

Mostly this, but with different guns. With Shotguns and Grenade Launchers, I fire from the hip, but with just about anything else I use iron sights.

This makes transitioning between Battlefield and Half-Life really jarring, considering the latter only has iron sights on one weapon.

Personally, iron sights give me a better feeling for the gun. But i don't mind hip fire.

I usually prefer "from the hip". In games that give the option to aim down the gun, I don't bother most of the time.

No inbetweeners option?

As of using the Move on Killzone 3 I prefer hip aim because the flexibility of my wrist compensates for the rapid moving im usually doing.

Of course when it gets to longer range engagements or sniping, theres only one way to go.

I love ironsights, because it annoys me with other guns how your bullets never hit where you aim the cross hair.

Plus, games with 'sights usually have crosshairs (best of both worlds), but games with crosshairs usually don't have 'sights.

But for fast-paced games such as CSS and TF2, I prefer the crosshair. Ironsights still win.

This hip word really seems to stray many people from the fact that the weapons in games where you shoot through a crosshair, are often more accurate than in ones where you shoot from an ironsight. The main difference of these two being, that you have a crosshair constantly on the screen and shoot through that, instead of first bringing up your sight, and then having that on your screen to shoot through.

I will clarify it as being crosshair aiming then. Thanks for the heads up.
