So, what's your favorite era in home gaming? I'm a bit of an old-school gamer here, my preference leans very strongly toward the 16-bit era, especially the SNES.

The SNES era is where I really got my start in gaming, but I will forever consider the PS2 era the "golden age" of gaming.

Hard to say really, I mean I started playing on an old TI PC with a monochrome CRT monitor. Kings Quest, Space Quest, The original Sim City even programmed some games in C-Basic...god that was a nightmare. That was a good era because it got me started with what some would call an obsession :) Then it moved up from there. Got a CGA monitor and could play things like Kings quest 3 and Prince of Persia! You also forgot the Atari, Amiga, Commodore era as well. But when I voted I choose the current Generation of systems, which should also include the PC as well becuase many of these games are X-Platform. The games released today(most of them anyhow) are well written, have great development tracks, are are starting to make huge waves in the entertainment sector. I've followed Video Games almost since their inception, sans PONG and a few others pre-1975, and they only keep getting better. Granted with more startup companies and more developers, more crap tends to be pushed in our faces as well, but I still think we are living in a great era for gaming!

I got started on the Sega Genesis myself, but I always loved the PS1 and PS2 eras. However, my favorite game falls back to the NES era, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. I guess I jump around a lot on my favorite era, haha.

Not played anything before the last gen, apart from a few SNES games at my friends house. And i enjoyed ps2 and gamecube, and Xbox more than i enjoyed the 360.

Last gen because it was cheaper and more simple. However, I never played online in last gen so that's a negative aspect.

Right now. This era right here. And next year I'll say the same. As I will in 10 years time. It's all well and good to look back nostalgically and moan about the state of the games coming out today but I think it's wrong to do that. There were always crap games way back when, just like there are today - and there are still gems (whatever your personal taste in games tells you to call a "gem").

The difference between the gems of today and the ones of eras past is that today's games look better, are more sophisticated, come in widescreen/surround stereo, have speech and music like any film or high quality production and are that much bigger and more detailed. I'll give a few examples to make my point:

Compare Way of the exploding fist or Barbarian to the latest Tekken or Streetfighter game.
Compare Tomb Raider 1 to Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Compare Doom or Quake to FEAR, or Stalker
Compare Outrun to Burnout Paradise
Compare Elite to X3 reunion
Compare Driller or Total eclipse to a modern Metroid game
Compare Gauntlet or Smash TV to Shadowgrounds

They were all great games for their time, and I loved them and am not taking anything away from them when I say this, but now there are bigger, better, more modern versions of all of them, and playing the old games now after playing their modern incarnations just spoils the nostalgia and makes you realise how dated they are.

I was born in '92 so I didn't get my first gaming thingy (Gameboy color) until I was around eight years old.

When I got a Ps2 my favourite game was Crazy Taxi (I was 10, what, WHAT?) and the second (?) crash bandicoot game. I'm gonna vote for the current generation because I LUUUVH BATTLEFIELD 2!!

Aaand I did not really get my gaming on b4 I was twelve or something despite the fact that I thought most of the games was so-so, (Ok, burnout hehehehehhehe) and the agelimit prevented me from getting the really good games. (Well they were goodlooking)
My parents were not really stretching the limits here if you see what I mean. :p
This gen WOOOHOOOO!

It wasn't my intention to start a big thing where people moan and complain about games today and pine for bygone times. I like a lot of games that are coming out today, I liked a lot of games from last-gen, I liked a lot of games from the gen before that, etc.

Though, I still proclaim the SNES as my favorite console and it's games as my hands-down favorite collection for the simple fact that the sheer amount of quality games on the console was enormous. A problem I see in gaming today is that some companies think that they can take a bad game and put slick graphics on it and make it a good game. But, no matter how much you polish a turd, it's still gonna be a turd.

There are a lot of games coming out in the next few months that I'm really looking forward to, and I'm sure that there will continue to be a lot of great games coming out for the lifespan of this console generation.

The current generation sence it is the first one that I actually am old enough to actually keep track of the industry and buy/play as many games as possible. Though I do have fond memories of past generations, but I was very young and missed out on some great games.

My favourite era was 16 bit because I was 11-12 at the time and I had a SNES and it was great. Every time I play games now (as an adult) I feel guilt that I should be spending my time more productively. Games as far as I am concerned are for a certain time in one's life that can never be recaptured later on.

I'm enjoying my Xbox 360 and Wii, and although there have been some great titles out for this generation (Gears, GTA, MGS), it hasn't achieved the legendary status of the last generation of consoles. Mine goes for PS2, Gamecube, Xbox; the last era.

Wow, I'm surprised that current gen is winning, there's only been one or two games that have impressed me so far this gen. For me it's got to be last gen, with games like Timesplitters 2, Halo:CE, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear Solid 3, Devil May Cry 3, GTA: Vice City and KOTOR, how could it be any other era?

I can't decide between last gen, or current gen. I have plenty of classics for my PS2 and Gamecube, such as all the Splinter Cells, MGS3, and SSBM, but there are also great newer titles, like COD4, BioShock, and Mass Effect.

Hard choice. I played my first video games on the SNES, spent my early days as a gamer on the PS1, and my teen years on the PS2/Xbox and now the PS3/360.

I guess I'll go with the PS2/Xbox era, that was when gaming was the most fun to me.

Plenty of nostalgic voting here. Personally I never enjoyed pixel perfect platforming and so didn't really get into gaming till the 32/64 bit era.
