I saw a poll asking about cloning, and it gave me this idea.
Hope this hasn't been done before, but if it has, that it has been a while ;)
Anyway, My view is that is okay, as long as the eggs are from fertility clinics where they would have been destroyed anyway. My philosphy is this:
IF you had thousands of prisoners that were going to be executed, and their bodies cremated, but your country was in desperate need of organ donors, then is it not okay to kill the prisoners, and harvest their organs for the good of society? It is not like we just went out and pulled people out of their homes, killed them, and harvested their organs.
Kinda gross analogy I know, but it was the best I could come up with.
Also, I do not mean for this to devolve into a flame war, so please keep the comments intellectual and not say "you are just a stupid, close minded Christian!"

I'm cool with it. It'll save lives in the long run, millions most likely. Millions of lives is more than worth the destruction of a few cell cultures.

I share the same view as you, If the eggs are/were going to be destroyed anyways, we might as well get some use out of them.

Your view is pretty much the same as mine. I don't think killing fetuses for the sole purpose of stem cell research is right at all... but if it's going to be aborted anyways, don't let it's premature death be in vein, you know? Give it a purpose.

Well, I'm against the death penalty, but that's besides the point. I think that yes, we should be able to use stem cells to cure diseases and what not.

Also, if I remember correctly, didn't they find a way to harvest stem cells without harming any embrios? Something to do with the umbilical cord, does anybody know what I'm talking about?

I don't remember all the details, but I do remember hearing something along those lines. Which is why anti-stem cell activists don't have a single leg to stand on anymore.

I remember hearing something about that too. I also think I heard something about the brains of old people but that's probably my weird imagination...

Fuck fetuses.
And fuck everyone standing up for them.
I don't mean to generalize, but I have noticed a vast majority of the people I see promoting pro-life are past the point in their lives where an accidental pregnancy would even be possible, what with menopause and old men's dicks shriveling up.

Funny ol' world.

As long as it is voluntary, I am fine with it. Fetuses are no more intelligent then dogs, and if anything that has potential to become human is a person, then a carbon atom is a person, too.

Oddly, I am a Christian in FAVOR of embryonic stem cell research.

SCIENTIFIC REASON:

Lots of more uses of technology to potentially head off genetic illness...and we could always commercially market athletic genes to fund the projects (much like plastic surgeons use the boob-job market to fund charity work for kids).

THEOLOGICAL REASON:

If God gives humanity knowledge to help themselves- knowing and not doing is a sin of omission.

I had heard rumors along those lines as well- using stem cells from the human placenta at or near the joining with the baby (tissue that's thrown away at birth anyway).

Stem Cell Research is as unethical as jerking off, it will also save lives.

Pretty much this. If they will die anyway, let their deaths serve humankind to the utmost
