theres no denying that the captain mcmillian mission was loved by almost everyone (which my poll will HOPEFULLY prove), it was a brilliant mission and really made that game great. BUT why are they ignoring this, they must know that this was really popular and sure as hell beats shooting endless streams of enemies down a narrow corridor

when they released black ops, i (along with zero punction) thought that the name suggested a sneakier type of game. i think that the franchise is getting stale and realising a game based on these type of missions would really spice up the series and take it in a new direction

N.B: im not saying i didnt enjoy the rest of COD4, MW2 or blackops. i just prefer this type of gameplay

Seriously, the simple lack of punctuation burns my eyes. But yes, I did like that mission a lot.

It was probably the best mission in CoD4, but part of what made it good was the change in pace it brought to the overall campaign. If every other mission had been all sneaky-sneaky then it wouldn't have had anywhere near the effect it did. And if you think about it the mission only really picks up after you snipe Zachiev (or however you spell it) and go on the run from the Ultranationalists. The iconic moment of the whole mission is the 'last stand' by the Ferris wheel, which is distinctly nonstealth.

Personally, I found the iconic moment to be when you were crawling mere feet away from a russian patrol.

More than any other CoD mission? I really like the "No Russian" level where you gunned down the airport. But then again, I didn't play through the whole game because I don't own it.

That mission was what took the game into awesome territory for me. And I'm someone who never expected to like a military shooter, and never had liked a straight war shooter until CoD4 changed my mind and sold me on the genre.

Probably because they are hard to make compelling sneaking games/missions. Where as tides of badguys running at you down a corridor is a lot easier to design.

Why do you think Thief has been so hard to recreate?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. After all, the approach to the target is more stealth based, whilst the exfil is more combat orientated. I've always kinda focused on the exfil, but that's just my play style.

so far with 22 people prefering this mission and 6 not, its obvious that this is very popular

ive just realised that my second favourite mission (a very close contender to captain mcmillian) is the AC130 section. so i think they need more missions based on stealth and gunning from massive gunships ;)

COD4 got its pacing just right. The stealthy bits were very cool, I remember thinking 'holy shit this is awesome' when I had to go crawling under that jeep.

There is a vast vacuum that COD fills quite well, and that is online gaming...
As you can see in videos on youtube, people don't play COD4 for the single campaign anymore, it's all about stabbing someone online now

The reason it was so loved was that it was different from the rest of the game. It offered another interesting thing, and thus stuck out in peoples' minds.

A whole game would defeat the point. Too much of a good thing.

I didn't like it because I'm a bit dumb and took forever and a day to get past the part where there's the tank and troops and everything. Don't know if you were meant to sit miles away from everything on the edge of the radiation, but that's what I did.

I can see why everyone enjoyed it, but I just find the charging in and gunning down anyone that so much as looks at you funny more fun.

I loved it. Crawling under Jeeps and making breaks for cover and taking down lone patrols.

Brilliant atmosphere followed by the brilliant little sniping section.

I think the reason why they dont do it more often was/is because sneaking missions annoy most people. When you make a sneak level or mission, you have to make sure it isnt tedious, nor ungodly difficult.

Going to BLops, I liked the second Hudson mission where you had the Blackbird feeding you intel, that felt like actual Black Ops. Also, going to MW2, the Spec Ops mission where one player is on the ground and the other is in the AC130. That was fun.

And like said in the OP, That level where you have to snipe the ultranationalist leader, and you're sneaking most of the time, that was awesome also.

Huh, don't get this wrong, I really liked that mission. But it kind of featured that very thing why I pretty much dislike the Blops campaign (especially on a 2nd playthrough): you, as the player, get shoehorned all the way through. Now: crouch! Now: follow! Now: stay put! Now: run! Now... finally, you're allowed to shoot!

So, careful what you wish for ;)

It was quite awesome indeed. But if all of the missions were like this, it wouldn't be as fun.
But dammit, it's hard as hell to get trough that final stand on veteran...
But yeah, loved the atmosphere, like the dogs eating corpses and buildings being deserted.
