While the subject of the Joker has been batted around a number of times, I've yet to find on this site a definitive poll stating which of the incarnations we escapists find really was the difinitive Joker.

My personal vote is for Hamill. Don't get me wrong Heath's performance was killer, but I think that Hamill really encapsulated what Joker was all about.

I'd say Heath Ledger did the best one, not because he died god dammit, but because i think he acted out the Joker perfectly

Heath, mainly because he is the only one I have seen (or remember at least, I was quite young when I saw the older ones), also because he played it very convincingly.

At the fear of sounding like a sheep I would say Ledger. He actually showed The Joker as a true psychotic criminal who no remorse. He truly embodied a Chaotic Evil villain.

Heath Ledger, because he did a truly amazing job. How can you go wrong when the audience loves your role as the villain more than the hero?

Many even say his dedication to perfecting the role played no small part in his death. Jack Nicholson was reported to have said "I warned him," when news of his death was given to him. Imagine being a psychopathic killer like the joker, though. Is it any wonder that you would begin to question the value of a human life, even your own, particularly if you are a method actor.

It's almost a three way tie between Hammill, Ledger and Nicholson. I'd have to say Ledger because he (as the Joker not himself) survived the movie. Also the recent entries feels far more like batman than the original movies. If you look at it just from a body count perspective Batman was almost worse than the joker towards the end.

Before, I thought the Joker was a failure of a villain who wouldn't last two minutes in the real world of crime. But Heath Ledger's Joker completely changed my opinion, and I seriously think he is one of the best villains ever. For that, Heath gets my 'best Joker' badge
