Polls, some threads have them, some don't. Should the ones that don't have them get them, or should the ones that have them lose them? Do they really tell us anything or are they just yet another way to kill time?

YOU DECIDE!!!!!

Many of the better discussion threads don't have polls, because it then forces people to actually post if they want their opinion known. On threads with polls, some will just choose their option on the poll and then leave.

I like it better when there isn't a poll, because then I get to read opinions and stories from people, rather than pre-determined options.

Polls give a people a quick way to state their opinion without actually posting anything, and they can see how many people agree with them.

You're not the first one to think this or make a thread about this. If it makes sense, then add one by all means. If you add one for the hell of it, it's not like I can stop you.

Then this is already a success. I was really bored, as evidenced by the five exclamation marks at the end(a sure sign of madness).

You get a quicker understanding of what people think by looking at those rather than by reading each and every post.

Alakaizer, I think it is you who are trying to kill time.

I sometimes get mad at polls because they don't have the option I want. Then I have to go and complain about it. And that's no fun for anyone.

I really dislike polls.

Most of the time they are incomplete, simply because you can't sum up peoples feelings in 8 options. They discourage discussion because people just pop in, vote, then leave.

Also - The random options at the end annoy the shit out of me. Waste of space and when they are put into a serious discussion (which shouldn't have a poll in the first place) they void the results of the poll.

It's a a poll... about polls

My mind... IT BURNS!

OT: I don't like polls with a stupid 3rd option that ruins the statistics of the poll itself.

Polls are a quick way to ask (and answer) certain questions, but I've found that many posters reply to the poll rather than the first post if the two aren't exactly the same.

It sure is, just like making a funny thread is a one in a million chance...and everyone knows one in a million chances succeeds nine times out of ten!

Polls work best when the selections are facts, not opinions and there is many diverse selections. I often find myself not voting on a poll because the supplied options don't really meet with my answer to the question.

Such as a poll about what book genre you read I saw in the forum. It had many options but lacked some key ones. There was no "I read several different genres" or "I don't like to read" options. Also, it never hurts to just throw in a silly answer for those occasions when people find they don't match the supplied serious choices.

Polls are all right for their intended purpose. However, they're not always necessary. And they generally don't have enough options.
