So, here I am sitting all by my lonesome, browsing the 'Scapist. Not having a bite since five-thirty, I grew a bit hungry. After browsing the pantry, refrigerator, and even the freezer, I turned up snackless. But then, on the kitchen table, I spied the metal container filled with popcorn that my grandma had left earlier today. And so I found my snack.

But having been eating these delicious kernels for a few minutes, I wondered why we eat these in such massive amounts. They're relatively tasteless, they more often than not leave you thirsty, they get stuck in your teeth and back of your throat (don't you just hate that?), and they also don't really have significant nutritional value. We also have many other tastier snacks, ones that are also healthier. Pretzels, for one.

So, why do you think that we humans keep eating these things? I for one think it's because they're easy to produce and make you feel like you're eating more that you actually are. My favorite popcorn type is caramel-covered, by the way :D

EDIT: A bit late to the start, and I honestly have no idea how I forgot about it, but kettle corn has been added to the poll!

I love buttered popcorn. Soooo tasty. Although my fingers get greasy. That sucks. Still, it's worth it!

It has to have butter. I think we keep eating this stuff because it's easy and when you douse it in butter/caramel you get a savory/sweet snack that's quick and easy. And with the covering it at least has a flavor.

I hate to disagree with you, Portal... But popcorn actually does have some good nutrients. It's also very high in fiber.

I prefer my popcorn home-popped. We've got bags of loose kernels and we get a big metal bowl, pour the kernels and some oil and salt in it. Cover it with aluminum foil, and put it on the stove. Turn the heat to medium, and start shaking the bowl. Don't stop shaking it until the kernels stop popping.

Then, add melty delicious butter... a bit of sugar, a bit more salt if needed... Om nom nom...

I've never given the cheese powder a fair shot, but caramel's my favorite and buttered is a close second, but only with 2/3rds a lethal dose of salt.

Plain.

Perhaps a dash of salt and butter but when you go to a movie and they put about a gallon of "butter" on your popcorn, I feel like I'm about to have a heart attack just looking at it.

So what would this be classified as?
A vegetable?
A starch?
....... A dairy product? :p

Where's kettle corn? Seriously, it's always the kind I gun for whenever buying it, and I'd like movie theaters much more if they sold it instead of the "buttered" kind.
