What I find most disturbing about all this is a featured DvD on the site is titled "Old Asses", guess what it's about.
To be honest, I never thought the advocating adblock thing was the escapists idea. It sounds like a rule put in place as a condition when dealing with ad companies. If the Escapist doesn't harshly deal with people advocating it, advertisers might leave or not have interest in paying for space on the Escapist in the first place.CrazyCapnMorgan said:Actually, I had an idea just as I was trying to get some shut eye!
Here it is:
Instead of The Escapist banning people for the promotion of ad-blocks, I think that every time some user goes and does this, a Mod or an automated messager appears on the thread quoting the person who promoted this use of ad-blocks and the message appears below it:
"Yeah, you could go about doing that...OR...[insert PubClub promotion here]".
To me, this makes more sense as it's advertising AND competing against whatever said user promoted in the first place, be it just the vague use of the word "ad-block" or something else more specific. It also gives The Escapist more opportunities to generate more revenue for their business without running the hypocritical practice of banning people.
OK, now going back to sleep!
I'm guessing it's about elderly donkeys.ThePenguinKnight said:What I find most disturbing about all this is a featured DvD on the site is titled "Old Asses", guess what it's about.
Except it already is breaking their own rules. You can't link to porn either and that's exactly what this is. Yes people have already said that it's the fault of whatever is providing the ads so now we just wait until they are taken down. Also out of bit of humor Andy Chalk calls himself the worst journalist on his twitter. Considering everything going wrong with his article on this that just fits so much more.loc978 said:As long as the ads don't break their own rules (so clothed pics only), I don't see an issue with it. The Escapist has been hurting for cash a bit, and there's no bigger cash cow on the internet than porn.
I was going to say I though it was OK, as it's a service on the PS3 and this is a gaming site.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:SNIP
It's going to be a weird day when I agree with a Christian on the topic of porn, but yeah, what Caramel Frappe said. *fistbump with da Frappe*Caramel Frappe said:Pretty surprised how upset some Escapist members are- I mean, I understand if you have kids and you don't want them getting a sneak peak of the ads but.. for the most part I will assume that those Escapist members are upset because they cannot display/post any pics relating to porn due the rules and yet here are ads showing off sexual women posing (except the face one.. I don't count that as sexual at all.)
But don't get me wrong, I am not saying to those Escapists that they have no reason to be mad. I'm pretty neutral about the whole thing because I am a Pub Member and though I see many screen shot the ads and posting them- it's really no different then what I see in the media. If you go and see a billboard, chances are it's a woman in her bra/underwear showing off. In malls they have this, and in magazines it's all the more flashing and so forth.
My only concern is who would sneak them in? But Kross will look into it and within the week or even a few days, everyone will forget about it (can't say I will remember it.. we'll all be talking about some event coming up like the ME3 DLC for the main story or something.)
EDIT: Oh yea- forgot to mention that I know it's a porn ad.. but you have to click it in order to see the porn (or least go to it's official website). The way I see it, the girls are just there being pretty and all- though I have seen worse on actual game covers lol.
True point. As a heterosexual Female I don't mind admiring some nice boobs, but a Man in his boxers would also be quite pleasing.Screamarie said:Where's the sugarDVD ad with a man in his boxers? Equality people!
Yeah... no these aren't porn ads. It's advertising a new PS3 service that the Escapist itself wrote an article on. I don't know if this was intensional or not on the part of the Escapist but if you have an issue with this then you are welcome to bring it to the attention of the staff via polite PMs or the Tech Team group.Fawxy said:-snipped post that for some reason mentions me-
No man, think of their artistic integrity! If they do what the whiny fans want then they're undermining their vision! MovieBob says so!V8 Ninja said:Protip, Escapist; Stop ignoring your fan-base. Just listen and act accordingly. It's not that difficult.

BLATANT LIES!Andy Chalk said:Absolutely no links to any of it will be provided.
The problem is they specifically said in the news article about this new service that they wouldn't be postin links to this exact service. Now there are actual ads about it. Aside from that, if any one of us posted a link to this service we would be banned faster than you could blink because its against the rules to post stuff like that.TimeLord said:Yeah... no these aren't porn ads. Just to point out... the "service" being offered is a porn service. That's what "adult movies" meansTimeLord said:Yeah... no these aren't porn ads. It's advertising a new PS3 service that the Escapist itself wrote an article on.Fawxy said:-snipped post that for some reason mentions me-
