Other for me. I used to pre-order but I am not interested in most games these days.

Of course I see the advantages like the little figurine that comes with Assassin Creed 2 and OoT Master Quest that came with Wind Waker, I will look out for things like that because it's definitely worth it.

I only do so if the game is a console exclusive, and one that I want wholeheartedly and have been anticipating for a long time. That narrows down the list to only a handful of games for me, but I have done it...a couple of times.

I have only pre-ordered a couple games in my life but I plan on pre-ordering the Ultimate Trilogy edition of God of War 3 because it comes with the God of War collection (first two games on a single Blu-Ray disc) that wasn't released in Australia unless you imported it. That and some other stuff which I haven't seen yet.

EDIT: Just remembered that the game will end up being RC in Australia so never mind.

Pre ordering shouldn't mean you have to pay for the whole game up front, usually just a £1 or 2 to secure a copy (not sure where you are, but that is how it works in Game and Gamestation in the UK)
And, yes I have pre ordered but as may of the PP's have said only if I am sure the game is going to be really awesome.

I've never seen a video game store run out of copies of a game, so I don't see the point.

I know that I should sometimes, but I just can't get myself to do it! I prefer a proper review of it before I buy.

Whats with the "I love pie" alternative? All we learned is that 5.7% of the people that voted are the kind that makes my head spin!

Only if it's a definitely going to be released.

The night San Andreas came out, I didn't pre-order. Well, long story short, we went to 3 separate towns in order to find a Gamestop that would let us purchase on the night of release, but not have a pre-order.

We eventually found it: A walmart, not a day over 1, stocked with asshat teenagers riding shopping carts outside, and old women, stocking up on apple pies. Life Was good. I went in, grabbed the treasure, and did three consecutive backflips* over the counter on my way out of the door. I rode off valiantly into the sunset, my 2004 Corolla purring, bravely, as we arrived home.

As for times I HAVE preordered... Well... Fallout 3 and Uncharted 2. Those were relatively normal in comparison.

I've only ever pre-ordered 2 games, simultaneously, and I was super-hyped about both of them - Red Faction: Guerrilla and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Imagine my agony when both of the title's PC release dates kept getting pushed back for no discernible reason! In the end they both arrived on the same day so I guess that was a plus... kind of.

PIE!

OT: Pre-ordering is bad. Pre-orders never actually get you a game on the release date. Pre-orders leave you with nothing to play. Pre-orders give your money to people as they developing it and if they don't receive enough pre-orders for your console of choice they begin removing shit from it to stick it to you. Pre-orders also encourage bad games to make sequels before the first bad game has had the chance for the public to come to terms with that fact.

And finally pre-orders make horrible game designers rich before they even deserve it.

Buy pre-owned just so they don't get any of your money. But don't buy from GameStop because they don't repair used games.

I'll generally pre-order stuff I'm excited about for my PS3, but usually only if they come with something cool.
My Alex Mercer figurine terrorizes my missus' Hello Kitty toys on the shelf. Some of the better one's I've bought would be the GTA4 Deluxe edition with the lockbox etc and the Arkham Asylum kit with shitty plastic Batarang.

I never have.Because of two reasons.

Reason #1.I´m not even sure that video-game stores here offer a pre-order on games.

Reason #2.I would pre-order off steam if i had a credit card.Which i don´t.

I pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 4. That's the only game I've ever pre-ordered and not that I had a bad experience with it, but I don't plan on doing it again. I hate the feeling that I don't know if the game is going to tank or not. With MGS4 it didn't matter if it tanked, it was MGS4.

By rule, I don't preorder games, but there are some extreme exceptions where I couldn't not do it... 3 in 10 years of gaming :D

The Orange Box
The Wrath of the Lich King
Assassin's creed 2

I rarely do after Game screwed up my Wii pre-order. Also, if theres a game I really want (which is rare nowadays) I can get a better deal by going to the local Tesco at midnight or before work on release day and sweet talk one of the night staff to sell me a copy.
