Yes. Pre ordering games is great. By the time I go and pick them up, I have forgotten that I paid full price on them already. I am able to delude myself into thinking I am getting the games for free!

I guess, theoretically, if you had no willpower at all and knew you wanted a game, and had the money for it, but by the time it was released you would have spent it all on Dr. Pepper and cake mix and were out of luck, its a great idea.
In my case, I'd blow it on gas and guacamole dip.

What, exactly, is the point of preordering?

I'm assuming that it helps a distributor get a clear idea of what kind of sales to expect long before the game's released. And so they cook up in-game rewards, etc. with the developers in order to encourage it. Or is it just cashing in on the 'nownownow' instinct with gamers who can't wait another 12 hours to buy a game?

Never preordered anything. I remember standing in line at midnight with my gf to get her copy of Burning Crusade. After installing, patching, and queueing up for her realm, she played for about 30 minutes and went to sleep.

Then I stopped by Best Buy after work the next day and got one of their bazillion copies with no trouble.

I do pre-order games, but i don't do it all that often. I have to KNOW that i want the game enough and i have to KNOW that it will be good.

For example, i pre-ordered MW2, why, because i KNEW i would eventually get it, so why not get it at the start.

And i also Pre-Ordered Dirt 2. I knew i would love it because it got better in almost everyway, and i knew that it would.

So i acually don't pre-order that much, but i still do it from time to time.

I don't really care about playing something as soon as it comes out, I can wait. Saves money and effort.

I usually pre-order, but after research. Usually I end up pre-ordering a multipack and splitting it though.

Well, yeah its sure as hell alot better than not getting the game and what does it cost. like, 5 bucks more? I had friends complaining that they couldn't get modern warfare 2 as I picked up my pre-order. I try to pre-order so that I don't spend my money on food.

Recently i walked into EB Games wanting to buy either fallout 3 or assassins creed 2. Whilst weighing the pros and cons I spied the sign to pre-order Mass Effect 2. As soon as i saw Mass Effect my mind was over ridden and i spent my money on the pre-order. When i left the store i stopped and realized i wouldnt have anything to play for a month which is why i went into the store in the first place. So initially i regretted it, but when i got home i reminded myself of why its worth waiting.
Then i played Shadow of the Colossus for the hyper bazillionith time.

So vote and feel free to share your stories.
Why didn't you just put down $10 for the preorder and bought one of those games?

I've only preordered twice, for FFXII and KHII and both times it was worth it. I'm not sure I will be preordering FFXIII, since it may end up costing $120 with the way games are these games.

I do it for games when I think the store might run out the day I want my copy. Doesn't make buying the game any harder, and your guaranteed to get a copy. Plus some games have bonuses for preordering (baseball bat in L4D2 for instance).

Hell no, even with titles i want to play, i want to see and test the product before i get my wallet out because im tired of putting money on games that just end up being full of bugs/boring/overhyped.
