I have just made my very first pre-order: for Mass Effect 2. And I am sure it will be worth it! :-D

Normally, I wait until a while after release so as not to pay premium prices for games... But when it comes to eagerly-anticipated sequels, I feel exceptions can and will be made.

Eh...wait a few days and it's on shelf easy enough. I've pre-ordered before, and it's not all that worth it. Some minor discounts, maybe, but it's never all that much. Better to wait for a decent sale (because there's always gonna be one soon).

Well round my way it's free to pre-order at retailers, and there's sometimes a free item included in pre-orders, so I do with a lot of games. No obligation to buy either. It's awesome!

Preorder advantages mean that the company is most definitely not thinking long-term with the game. Meaning they know that once people really get their teeth into it, it's going to stink.

Take TF2. Several free weekends after the game's initial release, they have more than TRIPLED their sales. All those people who bought afterwards would not have the "Frying Pan of Early-Bird Excellence" (TF2's make-believe pre-order item) meaning it's an entire extra feature that only a select few get. I'm not saying EVERY game needs to update as often as TF2, but it obviously means they don't really expect their game to have much staying power once it's been out for a few weeks. I don't know about you, but if I'm going to buy a game for $50, play it for two weeks, then toss it out, then I feel I should then tear up my credit card until I can learn to spend money correctly.

I have actually shown some interest in certain games right up until the point when they say there is a pre-order exclusive bonus.

Some games you have to buy unless you want to risk not geting it and sometimes pre-order deals can be good so i usually pre-order

If theres an incentive/bonus from a pre order, its the reason why I pre-ordered Napoleon TW.

What bugs me about that image is that I didn't find out where you live by checking your profile! I barely learned anything about you! Tempting me with delicious food...

Meh. I see no point in pre-ordering. Just wait for the thing to come out, I mean, its not like oyu're oging to nessecarily get it any sooner because you pre-order it.

If I know I'll get the game then yes, especially because Game gives double reward points, I get it a day early and they occasionally give some nice pre order bonus.

I only do it if there is a pre-order bonus with it that I like. xD But sometimes, I don't even get the bonus so half the time, it isn't even worth it. :/

Two problems with that.

1. I've never seen a game that was impossible to get at launch (a few months after launch after the game flopped, like some cult legends, yeah).

2. Preordering does not guarantee you a copy of the game.

I could see the benefits of preordering on steam because you save 10% and usually you get a free related game.

I've only ever pre-ordered two games: Rock Band and Brawl. Both of the down payments I put on the games ended up counting towards the final price anyways, so it was worth it. And Brawl actually sold out very quickly, so I'm glad I did.

I only pre-order if it is a game I really want and it has a collector's edition. I did for Halo 3, Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2.

I've only preordered one game and that was Dragon Age: Origins, and I shall be doing the same with Mass Effect 2. A huge amount of research goes into my preordering process and thus I've only preordered one, and because of that I has a 100% success rate
