I want you to represent the male gender,
you're my new favorite person ^_^
gimme a brotherly hug dude
*hug*
really?
...what a horrible thought, so many things to go wrong.
nevertheless...*totallymanlyandnotgayhug*!

nah, i just hate a. being flamed and b. people making something out to be a battle of two demographics when it isn't. Legitimate feminism isn't a bad thing, I'm right behind the idea of gender equality but playing the card all the time makes the whole movement look stupid.
Damn
Fucking
Rights
*high fives you*

Im all for equality, but when I get my rights taken away from me because of feminism(which is happening at school) then Im starting to wonder if you guys truly want equal rights, or just want revenge.
I will admit, most guys arent nice to women, but thats how we treat each other so we are treating you like equals.
If men were women(we would be the same, but with breasts.) we would give the job to the guy with the bigger wang, and yet you get mad at us for giving the job to the girl with huge breasts.
so I have to ask you feminists, do you want us to treat you like equals, or to be treated fairly.
because either way things have to change.
If you want to be treated fairly, then you have to stop looking at men and start looking at humanity as a whole.
because I know more women who are sexist than men.
bitching about men is still discrimination, only its somehow justified.

thats my 2 cents, how long do you think till someone reports me for misunderstanding my words?

So I've been sick recently, nothing major, just an infection on my leg that's slowly but surely going away, and I had to go into hospital to get some IV antibiotics, anyway my question came about after I came out of the hospital I was yacking with some friends.

So I mentioned that I didn't really like my doctor in the hospital, a young woman doctor (younger then me, so strange), and they asked why, I said I don't care much for being treated by female doctors, I prefer male doctors.

At this point the two females around started laying into me calling me sexist, a bigot, etc. one even went so far as to ask if I was a racist as well.

Now at this point I tried to explain what I meant, and that I was most definitely not a racist or a sexist, I just had a personal preference to be treated by male doctors (and considering my GP's name is Humad El-Sheikh(sp?) I really don't think I've got an issue with people of other races) because I dislike being touched by strangers and it's easier for me to handle if it's a male. I don't make a big deal about it if that's the only option, but given the choice I'd rather a male doctor. I'm sure there are women out there that prefer female doctors.

At this point I was all but called a woman hater and I just decided to give up.

But it's been bugging me, is having a preference really being a bigot?
Its the why that makes it sexist. WHY don;t you like female doctors? Is it because you think men are better doctors? Than your sexist. Is it because you don't want the female doctor laughing at your junk when you drop your pants? That's not sexist.

Not saying those are the only two options, just examples.

Nah, if it was anywhere else, maybe, but at the moment, it's simply a case of being nervous around members of the opposite sex. Especially with things like prostate exams or gynecology, that's what I'm referring to really. I don't really mind if it's just a checkup.
It happens to everyone, I don't know why medical professionals don't understand it, smart people that they are.

If you have to let someone who you don't know touch your holiest of holies, then it might as well be your own sex, assuming you're straight. People are just more comfortable that way, it removes any sexual aspect from the whole thing, and in situations like that, it's better to keep it as simple as possible.

Yet when you request a male doctor, they look at you like you're some sort of bigot, it's insane.
Unless you're bisexual, along with being a bit awkward. Then, you're SOL.

Haha dude, I'm a female and I've had male and female doctors check my down there. I wasn't bothered in the slightest by any of it.

And the whole 'empathy' thing? Fuck off! They're doctors and they're all taught in the same way. They're not gotten recognise a symptom because 'yeah dude, I've totally been there before'. They're gonna recognise it if it's a certified symptom no matter what gender they are.
Now I'm going to say this once, if you don't want to be involved in a civilised discussion then I would heartily suggest logging off of a discussion forum but don't talk to me or anyone else rudely. I expect a degree of civility off of other users and if you're going to be impolite then I have no interest in talking to you.

I don't know when all women on the planet had this big meeting and appointed you as their official spokesperson but I don't think that any group of people on the planet want a representative that makes such broad generalisations. Your attitude to your body and sense of propriety are neither universally morally 'correct' nor shared by everyone on the planet. What you're basically saying is that your personal sense of comfort is correct and that I should fuck off.

Now it should be obvious that this isn't a gender issue, I am aware that medical teaching isn't gender-segregated having, as I do, the pleasure of knowing several paramedics and nurses. What this is is having a marked preference in which gender of doctor grabs my balls. This isn't unique to men since a lot of muslim women will request a female doctor, but it's a personal preference thing.

God knows if you've got a problem down there you're not in the most confident mood as is and anything that can ease patient discomfort is a good idea. This is not some issue of equality, it's purely an issue of upbringing and personal preference. I stand by the right of anyone, regardless of gender, race or whatever demographic divide you'd care to insert to select a doctor that makes them feel cared for and relaxed.
Oh dear. I'm afraid that the moment you claimed that my morals were 'incorrect' your whole argument went to shit.

Anyway, I never said that I think people should be forced to have a doctor of either gender, I merely stated that it is discrimination to choose, which it most certainly is. The rest is largely irrelevant. The OP asked if it was discrimination to which I replied that it is. I don't give a flying fuck about whether or not it's correct to discriminate in these circumstances. I merely stated that I personally do not care whether my doctor is male or female to make my answers a bit more personal.

And I'm sorry that you can't handle a little bit of swearing. You were obviously brought up in a strict household but this is the internet and you need to lighten to fuck up.

You probably could have specified that you didn't think they were any worse than a male doctor, just that you would feel more comfortable with a doctor of the same gender

Still, you're not sexist

I prefer to to be attended by women or to care for women, as I work in the healthcare industry. Its my preference and is no discrimination as I am a male myself, but guess the other way around can make people think its discrimination.

you know you'll shred the gears if you keep backpedalling like that right?

now if you were to re-read my post (or hey, since we're not mincing our words, how about you read it?) you'd see that what I actually said was that you were attacking me because my opinion differed to yours, not that your opinion was wrong. I said that your opinion wasn't an absolute position. Since apparently you don't like other people commenting on how maybe your opinion isn't shared by other people we'd all be obliged if you could attatch pictures of the stone tablets on which they are engraved next time please.

All I did was state that i didn't see a problem with what the OP did and you suggested I was wrong in a very rude and childish manner.

Your assumption that I am from a family that brought me up to pass out at an f-bomb is laughably untrue, i've merely found you to be unpleasant, immature and needlessly rude. I am perfectly happy to hear and use swear words but if you honestly believe that it is the norm to be that rude on here than frankly you obviously make a habit of not reading other posts.

Although, int he spirit of friendliness, apology accepted.

You aren't sexist. I prefer being treated by female doctors because they have a better understanding of how female anatomy works, and it's the same vise-versa.

I would've threatened a lawsuit if I were you. They can't just treat their patients like that. You should probably file a complaint with the hospital on this doctor.

But if the female doctor would laugh at his genitals, in that case he shouldn't like to be treated by that person at all, cause that would be very unprofessional. But wouldn't justify to not like to be treated by any female doctor.
Actually I could guess another reason, the OP stated she was younger then him, I would guess she was attractive also, and maybe he was afraid of getting aroused and be embarrassed. I can tell a story similar. Once on a night shift a colleague of mine (female) went to check on a male patient and he had bowel surgery and the dressing needed to be changed. He was a bit reluctant to let her doing it, but she said that even the sheet was already getting soaked. Happens it was aroun d 6:30 am and the guy had a... well... morning thingy. She had a weird reaction, and just stepped away from his bed. I noticed what happened, so I went there myself, covered, as you said, his "junk" and asked if he was OK for me to change the dressing and I would just get the stuff (and give him time to get "normal"; I didn't say this but he got the point) and I returned some minutes later with the stuff and he was quiet comfortable then for me to change it. Guess thou regarding my colleague reaction this guy probably was not confortable from that day on to be treated by her, and maybe even by any woman.

I was just giving examples. The ones you give are a bit more likely, but I'm a silly person, so I swing at the silly examples whenever I can.

You show me yours and I'll show you mine ;D Stone tablets I mean of course.

Hey man, you say all you were doing was stating an opinion? Yeah me too; you're the one who challenged me on it. What the hell did you expect? Don't get all bitchy when I defend my position. I'm sorry I won't roll over and beg for forgiveness.

I also don't understand at all how I was needlessly rude! You seem to be the one using unnecessary sarcasm and cutting statements to get your point across. Swearing is only rude if you're 10 and I honestly believe that it is the norm to swear on the internet. Please god don't ever go near 4chan if you can't handle the odd f-bomb thrown around.

And you can take your apology and shove it up your arse ;D That was necessary rudeness.

If you used the same wording that you used here, then that'd be why. If you explained it as your phobia of being touched by women you don't know, they'd probably have understood.

Not as discriminatory as this mind you

An Australian publisher has had to pulp and reprint a cook-book after one recipe listed "salt and freshly ground black people" instead of black pepper.

Penguin Group Australia had to reprint 7,000 copies of Pasta Bible last week, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported.

Blatantly copy/pasted from BBC News website
I'm not a horrible person for laughing hysterically at that right?

Threated to sue them for what? I'm confused as to what the hospital did wrong here...He didn't even give that much information about the trip and what they did there but what spawned from going there in a conversation.

OT: You are discriminating yes, but is it bad discrimination? No it is not. It is perfectly understandable that you have a preference on gender with a "personal" medical exam.
