I've pretended to be female before, but only to troll the guys asking for bosoms, lol.

I don't scam people ever, regardless of anonymity.

I'm a masive troll, I have multiple people that "know" I'm a "chick" with a voice masking program I have had manny guys try hitting on me only to have me fuck with them. I'm an ares-hole but it's what I do for fun but I have my limits, I try not to do it to guys that don't deserve it like the nice ones butyea most guys online are jerks any way.
You sound cool.

I once met someone who acted a lot like that. He is now the one person I would murder with no remorse.
Think on that.

I've always wanted to, just out of curiosity...I probably would've on RuneScape, except I remembered just in time that Runescape looks like an N64 game and in that case I'd probably rather be a dude with a green beard.

On Duel Monsters Genesis (which has gone through a half-dozen renames recently) I'm going by the name Mahou Shojou Dr Cakey (Magical Girl Dr. Cakey) right now, just to screw with people's minds.

Nah.

Although it would be kind of tempting to do it for a laugh.

I myself, am somewhat girlish so I can really mess with a man's head.

That's what having a father with a doctors deegree in psychology can teach you.

I tricked a guy in Borderlands by message saying that I was a 16 year old girl willing to go out with him for the most powerfull weapon he had. I left right after he did. I felt REALLY bad... and I found out I couldn't use it unless I was level 71....

So that was my past experince with a female character.
Bwhat?? and dosen't Borderlands have like a level cap of 69 (slightly sexual undercurret ha-ha-haa)

Having created over a hundred bits of prefab dialogue for Left4Dead2, I've been mistaken as a bot often enough. I've been considering if I could pass as a girl, though I'd not claim to be so much as give implicative hints. The tricky part is that women are not literarily different than men, especially when communicating in short missives via chat.

I also hand out gear that I'm not immediately using like it was Christmas.[footnote]That's regardless of gender of the recipient. I tend to assume everyone playing is male (most are) and use pronouns in accordance to one's avatar / character / whatever. I've never had an online gaming relationship that has become one IRL, but I have a few standing hospitality invites in New Zealand. Go figure.[/footnote] That's because it is way too easy to hoard tons of crap which isn't worth the space unless you want a legacy weapon for your next character. Even then, I'd rather stuff be used now than later.

...you'd be amazed how many female writers had to pretend they were male in order to get their works published...

I've heard of cases in which female mathematicians had to submit papers under a male name in order just for them to be looked at....

...I've heard of women writing under male pen-names just so that the publisher would give them a chance...
My flatmate when she was training to be an illustrator (and later, a painter) was advised in college to sign her art with a first initial or under a male or ambiguous pseudonym because even today there this some of this.

It breaks my heart, still, to read the reviews of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus from when she released the second edition (the first edition, she had published anonymously in a limited run), most of which are scathing criticism of her sex, not even addressing the story. And we're talking the beginnings of science fiction, here.

And yes, most female scientists got barely a notice for their work [http://xkcd.com/896/]. That is still in the process of changing.

Didn't Gearbox raise the level cap to 71? I never played to the level cap due to boredom

i have pretended to be a girl in games but not to get free stuff from other people, but instead to see the other side of the gender item list. There have been so may times i get a sweet set of gear only to find its female only.

No, of course not. I've played female characters in single player games, but I wouldn't do that in an MMO. Of course I usually steer clear of MMOs, I'm only recently broken away from that to try Champions Online because it's now free.

I've "pretended" to be female...while being female. >.> Don't ask... Anyways I have gotten quite a few things from being female.

I don't see the point in pretending to be female. A friend of mine has tried it and says it doesn't work, but I don't really play enough MMO games to bother trying things like this.

I've made my character female before, but I've always acted as myself never begged or anything, my character is high level anyway so they wouldn't give me anything for free anyway. :p

Never on purpose. I was playing Earth and Beyond as a female character though, and some dude started offering me a bunch of free stuff. Unsuspecting, I accepted it, then he asked me to join his guild and leave the one I had been in behind, using the term "baby" in the process. I informed him I was quite satisfied and was, in fact, a dude, and he proceeded to curse up a storm about how I had cheated him out of his stuff and he wanted it all back.

Needless to say, I told him that he made the assumption I was female and I would be keeping his stuff. But yes, I can say it works. Apparently I had my game on that night.

I don't have to pretend, people usually think im a girl until i boldly tell them i'm not.
You too?

I hate when people do that. I may have long hair, but I have a fucking beard! Girls are not generally flat chested with beards >.<

Nope, it's 69, was 58, after The Secret Armory of General Knoxx it was 61 and it was risen to 69 with an update and balance patch after that.

No. I have Aspergers Syndrome (clinically diagnosed, and god do I hate the idiots who make it necessary to say that) and that kind of deception doesn't come naturally to me as a result. I've heard that NTs do this, though. They tend, in my experience, to be very deceptive and untrustworthy, so this doesn't surprise me. If they weren't the kind of losers who would do shit like this, they wouldn't build societies where it works.

I have played female characters in games with exclusive equipment (I'm very partial to the binded set in Demon's Souls, what with its high fire resistance and low weight) or games like Mass Effect where it's a different way to experience the story, but I have never and would never misrepresent my IRL gender to others.
NTs?
