there both released on tuesdays
there both free roam games
they both have an emphasis on destruction and chaos
and both there main characters have similar names
alec mason alex mercer
but for me it is undisputed wich one is going to be better even though i havent played both of them yet

YAY, 100%(1 of 1) voted as I did...

I voted Prototype as I haven't heard or read that much about Red Faction...

All games in America are released on Tuesdays (apart from the odd exception) along with DVDs and CDs. In Britain, games come out on a Friday.

I'm a long time Red Faction fan (the rest of you are just posers) so I'll have to go with Red Faction here, Prototype does still look pretty good though.

I haven't played the other games in the Red Faction series because they held little interest for me. Prototype looks intriguing though. The gameplay looks fun and the character seems interesting, so I'm going Prototype.

Is it a "One or the other" thing? Its compared by release date, character name, and the extremely popular "free-roam" set up. They're completely different games:
RFG:
Mars, sledgehammers, resistance, protection, uber-science-fiction, vehicular sections abundant. Its also a dramatic departure from the first one.
Prototype:
Earth, superpowers, independence, ass-whoop, self-defense, rebellion, confusion (to an extent) among other things.
Not to say anything mean, but comparing two games is a throwaway forum topic. I'd pick up both, and I'd also like to see an 'either one' option in the poll.

Why is everything 'V.S Red Faction' I mean what's next?
Portal Versus Red Faction?
Mass Effect Vs. Red Faction?
Oblivion Vs. Red Faction?

P.S this was a satirical post parodying the overzealous out there.

That shouldn't be something to take into account with comparing the games. All games come out on Tuesday. Sames as DVD's.

But yeah, I vote Prototype because of the team who made it. Red Faction has fun multiplayer, though. But I never want to see it tact on to Prototype, ala Resident Evil 5.

I liked the demo for RFG (and I feel SR2 was one of last years best games) but the question I've been asking myself is Infamous or Prototype.

I was pretty sure it was going to be Prototype (me being a big Hulk UD fan) but the lack of early reviews/demos is disturbing me a little. I know its not the same, but for a movie, it's a bad sign.
Maybe I should rent all of them first. I may just end up buying RFG.
I'm just an indecisive guy.

I've played the Red Faction Demo, but i've been tracking Prototype for a long time, so i'm kinda split down the middle. Prototype's Gameplay and Story intrigue me more, so i'm gonna go with that

Well my first instinct is to say neither, but you haven't given me that option. So I'd say Prototype. None of the Red Factions have been anything but a sub par shooter based around a weak gimmick, judging from the demo, Guerilla is no different.
Protoype is a little more of a mystery though, there's not a demo to try or even any reviews yet.
I'm going to wait for the reviews but for now I'm sticking with a clear 'no' to both.

I'm more interested in Prototype, but I try to avoid comparing games from different genres. It's pointless.

That said, if I was interested in both and had money for only one game, I'd check the reviews for both before deciding which was better.

(Sorry 'bout the non-committal comment. I think it's a fair point of view.)

To completely different games that you can't compare even a little. Also, use capitilization(probably sp) because it makes you not look like a complete idiot.

Different games, different styles.
Exactly. RF:G is a TPS with destruction physics, Prototype is a free-roaming action game. Two very different styles. Comparing the two because of inane similarities isn't really fair. I could do the same with Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry (#1 was great in both series, #2 was terrible, #3 was a prequel, and #4 was different from the others) or Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter. It's not a fair comparison.
