I am very protective of my PS3. I made sure that I bought one of the early 60GB "fat" models, with all the bells and whistles like near-full backwards compatibility, four USB ports, etc. So I'm always wary when people have reported dangerous problems related to the Playstation.
On April 1st, Sony released the 3.21 firmware update, that would remove the "Install Other OS" feature. I personally don't care what the update is about, but I DO care about what I've heard of regarding it. A number of owners on the Playstation Forums have commented on crippling errors and problems that have damaged their PS3s, permanently in some cases. These include, but are not limited to:
- disc read errors
- PSN lockouts
- system freezes that won't go away
Sony hasn't said anything regarding these apparent problems and trying to fix them (as far as I'm aware of).
What I am trying to do is uncover information, so as to assess the validity of this potential threat to my PS3 before I go ahead and update. Should I be concerned about updating to 3.21, and just how bad can this damage my system? Are people right on the money with warning me of the dangers, or are they secretly Sony-haters blowing smoke, getting in the way of me and my PS3?
P.S: If you haven't already gathered, I don't want to hear about the removal of the "Install Other OS" feature. Don't use this thread as an excuse to whine about the update. Sony has its own forums for that.
