Poll: PS3 Price Drop Confirmed......sort of......

I stumbled over THIS a few minutes ago:

A source who wishes to remain anonymous has leaked a little tidbit of info that may be interesting to some of you.

The source, who I again remind you wished to remain anonymous, is saying that an internal memo has been circulating around Sony that hints at what everyone has been hoping to be true. That Sony's black beauty the PS3 will be getting a price drop this Christmas. To quote "we got an internal memo from ______ saying there should be a price drop soon."

Maybe they took the money they were losing on their store in the Metreon which sadly closed recently in order to offset the losses expected by the price drop of the console.

Lets all have a moment of silence for the store in the Metreon...at least before we break open the champagne.

Before we celebrate, let's get one thing clear; I have no idea whether or not this "anonymous source" is accurate. I know the site, screwattack.com, is reliable when it comes to news, but regarding this, I'm not sure.

That's why I want to know what YOU think. Do you think this is true? Is the PS3 price drop finally becoming a reality?

Bah, I have no need to call shenanigans, the price is going to drop eventually.

And you best believe that Sony won't announce such a thing until the date of the drop is in close proximity, otherwise everyone would wait for the drop.

And I'm not getting one till mid/late next year, so I'm not too bothered. Good news for those who have been waiting though.

EDIT: And I don't mean to be a dick, but there's no need to tell everyone that you have used the search bar, it just makes you seem almost guilty. If you had, no one could show you a repeat thread.

They already are making a loss on each PS3 sold. 360s are just about breaking even. That's why a PS3 price drop now would be suicide of the most retarded order. They need to wait for the component prices to go down.

That's what I thought as well, but keep in mind, while there might be a price drop, we have no idea what the price will drop to. Either way, I'm going to remain skeptical.

Meh, i just bought mine this monday after reading a statement from the head of sony saying that a price dop wasn't planned.

But seeing how i bought a pre-owned one for 2100kr (danish currency) instead of the 3000kr it ususally costs i guess i won't be able to get it cheaper after the price drop anyways

The component prices have gone down.
The last time they lowered the price was like a year and a half ago (at which time they were definitely losing money on each unit) so yes by xmas they will probably be looking to drop the price and start losing money again.
The xbox brand has been braking even but that's only because the 360 repair costs have been taken on by the MS mothership. Just be glad the xbox brand is owned by a company as big as MS; then again if it was it's own entity, they probably would've been forced to recall the 360 and permanently repair the hardware problems: better for all of us, not so good for MS shareholders.

I would have been pissed if it had gone down this summer. I just got a replacement PS3 not too long ago.

I still have my doubts, it seems every so often a PS3 price drop rumor pops up and it gets quenched by sony in a week or so. Maybe it is some brilliant plan by sony to make people want the system more and more and by actual price drop people will be swarming to get one. I for one am just sick of waiting.
