I'm getting a bit fed up of complaining about the PS3 'high price'. You pay for what you get. If you bought the highest spec 360 (which doesn't compare technically to the PS3 - this is leading I apologise if it starts a console war), it'd cost more
The sales in the lifecycle of the PS3 are comparible to be 360 over the same period.
I'm aware of this, and believe me, I have no problem with the price. I recently got a raise and this like this aren't as dire to my wallet as it once would have been. Keep in mind that the PS3 has already dropped to about 50% what it was at launch. I plan to buy one regardless of what price it is, simply because you're right: You get what you pay for. This poll was merely a beast of curiosity. Simply speculation as to whether or not SONY was going to drop the price or not. This is not a thread designed to house whiny little children who are too busy begging their parents for other expensive things to realize just how powerful the PS3 actually is on a technological standpoint. I've been carefully overseeing this poll and I don't believe anyone has been openly complaining about the price. Everyone here has simply been voicing what THEIR opinions are, and, considering the North American economy's current condition, there is truly no harm in that. And I believe you're correct (if there will be one), the common consensus believes that the price drop will happen (again, if) around March or April.
I apologise if I was preemptive in my defense of the PS3 price. I was referring to numerous posts outside this thread but people calling for a price drop (inside this thread) is complaining about the price. Complaints which I think are unjust.

My point of advertising remains. SONY just aren't doing enough. I've seen adverts on PSN that i've never seen in the outside world. Talk about preaching to the converted.

Enjoy your PS3. It's very fulfilling.

I get that the PS3 is cheap, and I agree wholeheartedly about that. But the problem is the illusion of the PS3's price. It's like when people saying that the "PS3 has no good games" (that is soooo 2007), while it's not exactly true (it depends on what you want from your games) the idea is still lodged in people's minds.

I bought a launch PS3 for $600 and I feel that it was worth every penny, but even at $400 the (illusion of it's) price is keeping them from selling more.

And advertising does help to.

Advertising is their main problem. There were a few ads for LBP on the TV over Chrimbo but compared to XBOX's piggybacking on every game ad and MS's own XBOX advertising and the ubiquitous Wii advertising is it any wonder that people don't care about the PS3 or are completely unaware of what it can do?

It's alright really, an I respect your opinion greatly. You are evidence that my choice, as well as many other's choice, to buy this machine is not a bad decision. You're right, calling for a price drop is complaining, however, considering the current economic crisis, I didn't see the comments in question (in this thread) as complaints, people are simply being hopeful, a forgivable evil when everyone's financial condition is being threatened. I too sensed the possibility of a console war, and my reply was an attempt at letting you have your opinion, whilst simultaneously pacifying any contempt that others might feel towards it.

It's true, SONY has done little to put it's name out there, which may be a problem causes by "insufficient funds", due to the money being lost on each PS3 unit. However, this is an excuse easily countered with the fact that SONY is a multi-billion dollar conglomerate. In truth, this is a situation similar to the Mac vs. PC situation. Apple has put a lot of time and effort in their advertising, and they have been appropriately rewarded. However, Microsoft has put little to nothing into their advertising for their line of computers and such. Perhaps, the money to be used for advertising in this department was pushed over to advertisement/production funds for the Xbox? Perhaps this is a sign of change for Microsoft? They are leaving their roots behind and moving on to a new demographic.

It seems you've eloquently said what I was trying to say. Price illusion indeed. I paid for my PS3. I paid plenty, but I'm not, and have never been upset about it. It's worth every penny.

They should get David Lynch back to do the ads. He's not needed in film anymore, Inland Empire was terrible

There will be a price drop. Everything devalues. But I don't think it especially needs one, anyone with a disposable income knows that the price tag isn't outrageous and even during the credit crunch I'm sure the only people annoyed about the cost here are kids. Plus there are enough bundles and deals going on the internet that those minding the pennies can shop around for the ideal deal. The only reason for an extreme drop is if Sony wishes to remain in close competition with the 360.

Which they actually have to think about now that they're losing money. The plot thickens.

I think the price of the PS3 is one of the major things in the way of people buying it. It is good value for money once you remember that there's a whole blu-ray player in it as well, but it's just too much to splash out on. I'm personally waiting for it to duck under the £250 mark, and over in Japan, people could be interested a hell of a lot more when the price passes ¥30,000. It's all a psychological thing with the numbers.
With LittleBigPlanet and Home, there is more incentive to buy it, but that ins't quite enough to topple XBox's tower of exclusives.
