Okay, I have a 360, and am planning on getting a PS3. I was wondering which "model" I should get. I don't have a PS2, so I was leaning toward the "Fat" model. I would like to throw this to my fellow "Escapists".

I... I think you should get the PS3 Obese, since it was localized for America (I'm american, I'm not trying to troll)

OT: Get the slim, I think backwards compatibility was the only thing it didn't have.

I see that you are new on The Escapist so I shall let you off this time.

However please do be aware that you should use the search bar next time, as this thread has already been done.

OT I think the Slim is better.

There's a reason why they're calling the Slim the new and improved model :p Go for the slim :)
oh, I thought the PStripple was infailable, seeing how the fanboys feverishly defended it.

but on topic, just grab the slim model, but beware, the Ps2 slim had major problems from the start, so be wary about it....

also you might be able to get a used fat model for even cheaper, so look around first before committing, like getting married.

but......but it does everything! the Nigerian Millionaire on the commercial said so himself!

unless of course, sony still likes making games for the PsDuce also [give one reason why Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released on the 360, Ps3 and the Ps2 that doesnt make sony sound bad, and I will give you a miniature dancing german.]
Because people who can't afford PS3's can still play it?

I agree with you but I really fucking want a miniature dancing German.

Either is good, both do the same thing, unless you plan on re-arranging your living room every few hours, then the lighter one would be more benficial

I believe this is a triumph of what they call an "economy of scale". In other words, Sony say "how can we make more money from the same technology with a minimum of re-tooling for our factories?" And they answer for us: "By making it smaller!"

The slim has won all contests except the beatuy contest. But if you don't care about looks, then you should totally get it.

Fat is better, hardware emulattion > software emulation for backwards compadibility. It is also better looking and easy to find cheap.

Not all the "fat" PS3 are backwards compatible. Backwards compatability's been gone for a little while, and you have to hunt to find one. If you have a bunch of PS2 games you want to continue playing, you might want to hunt to find one. But they can be pricier because the feature's no longer available. Otherwise, the Slim outperforms the fat in every other way. And you get a larger hard drive to boot.

It's because Sony guaranteed 10 years from the PS2 when they first released it. That's why PS2 games have still been coming out.

Wait until the anorexic one comes out.

"ROFL!", shouted the entire Escapist community, as the wit of KillerMidget's joke reached the ears of all warring bodies in the world, whereupon they laughed, threw down their weapons and joined hands with their former foes in merriment.

OT: I don't know about you, but the old maxim is "bigger equals better".

All about the Slim! I've decided to buy a PS3 as they don't seem to break down, and the slim looks like where it's at, looks like my beloved PS2. Scratchy plastic and only a couple of shiny bits. The old style PS3 is a big ugly chrome nightmare.

I searched PS3 and a few variants, and there were like a million, so, yeah... I Apologize.

Also, I think I'll get the slim and a "Fat" PS2 (as they're like $50) if I want to play PS2 games
