My dear Escapists! With the holiday season in full swing, I've decided to get myself a PSP, there being quite a few games for it I'd like and my DS seeing less and less action.

However! With the release of the 3000 version comes the question of which version to buy, the 2000 or the 3000. Having trawled the internet far and wide to see which version is better I have ended up with conflicting opinions and much confusion.

From what I've gathered the main problem with the 3000 seems to be the new way in which Sony have engineered the screen, with there being scan line and interlacing problems. Is this issue severe enough to warrant me buying a 2000 and dealing with a more apparent ghosting issue? Or is it not as big a deal as it's been made out? Also do any of the new features (microphone etc) make the 3000 worth spending the extra money on?

The scan line "issure" is not as bad as people make it out to be. The ghosting on the 2000 is also a big joke for the most part too. A lot of the "problems" associated with the PSP are tiny and don't hamper the experience at all. You might as well go for the 3000 as it's the newest, the screen is brighter, and the mic may be useful for you. The downside with the screen on the 3000 is that it eats up more power meaning less play time, but not by much. Really though, the 2000 model is pretty great and with the 3000 out, the 2000 is cheaper. so aside from a not so significantly improved screen and built in mic, it's just like the 2000.

I got a 2000 and it's great and if your looking to mod the 2000 is the easiest right now as the 3000 is just getting cracked. Go with eh 2K, cheaper, slightly more battery life, and easily crackable.

If you want to use homebrew, ask around since I don't do that kind of stuff.

But I would recomend the 2000 since there's not much difference between that and the 3000. Get the Daxter pack I believe, it's the only pack with a memory stick to save your games on.

2000s allot easier (for now) to get home-brews on if your looking for that kind of thing. It also has a microphone in it like the 3000, I have never used 3000 model but have a hell of allot of 2000s there a nice size reliable and don't cost too much, I would buy a 2000 over a 3000 any day. (but im stuck with my loveable 1000 phat brick)

get what ever one you want, i don't notice any real ghosting on my psp

as for memory cards, don't get the sony one, you can find the same type of card made by someone else for way cheaper and it works just as well

i got the god of war edition, would have liked the blue one but i hate football so i passed on it

I have a 1000 with a POS battery that lasts 10 minutes of gaming or internet without being plugged in, so in my opinion BOTH are great.

The reports about scan lines on the 3000 are over-hyped. From what I saw, only one game exhibits this (Disgaea), and you have to be playing under a magnifying glass to actually see the scan lines. I have owned every model PSP since release, and the 3000 has the brightest screen and is the clearest in direct bright light like the sun. The built in microphone delivers Skype functions out of the box. The bundles are also a great deal.

So, unless you are a die hard homebrewer or want to save a few bucks on the last model, there is no technical reason to avoid the 3000. In addition, there are plenty of feature reasons to choose the 3000 over the previous models. I'd recommend the 3000 with the Everyday Shooter coupon, personally.
