So yeah, I'm a smoker (tobacco, FYI), but I want to quit and stay that way. For now my solution is to have someone I trust hold onto my cash so I'm not tempted, but I know that's not a permanent solution. Any suggestions? I quit once and went for a good three months without, but one really bad argument later (long story, please don't ask) and I started back up again. Just so you know, I tried the patch, but (1) they don't really work, (2) they don't stick unless you use medical tape which sorta defeats the purpose of making them clear, and (3) they itch like a ************ for like an hour after you first put them on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Incidentally, this is probably a repeat thread, but my browser kept locking up every time I tried to do a search, so no dice. :(

quitter... of quiting aha ... yes i am humorous.

do what 1900's doctors did! take heroin. wait that was for alcohol.

whenever you get the urge to kill i mean smoke go chew some gum. Or masturbate furiously whatever works for you, some people are weird like that.

Play violent video games. do something that makes you think very hard... how bout calculus. organic chemistry. whatever

There was also a water vapor cigarette that makes you simulate smoking.

Try the mints, the gum, there also this fake cigarette that I saw a guy smoking in a medical centre waiting room. It's plastic and when you breathe in a little led in the end makes the cherry light up and he was exhaling smoke (or vapor) as well. Looked expensive.

Also, ask your health care professional.

Ever tried nicotine gum? Or I've seen those electronic cigarettes advertised on TV that claim to be able to help you stop smoking, although that seems a little far fetched.

I don't really know anything about smoking because I have never smoked in my life but isn't there that gum called nicorette or something similar that helps people quit smoking?

That's all I could come up with, sorry, but good luck on quitting.

Edit: Darn I was ninja'd.

That's fine, I appreciate the thought. I might end up trying the gum if I get enough positive feedback on it.

Well to be honest I've never actually tried to quit but a friend of mine managed to cold turkey by chewing copious amounts of gum. You could also try slowly weaning yourself off them aswell, cut down the amount you smoke each week if cold turkey isn't for you.

If you're using nicotine replacements I'd suggest the inhaler or gum over the patch cause it'll give you something to do rather than scratching out your eyes(which is what I assume happens).

Good luck!

You could try what a friend of mine did. He paid me $50 to punch him in the head and take all his cigs everytime I saw him light up.

Dunno if it worked or not, though. He just stopped hanging out with me.

I'd recommend using that Blu Cigs Electronic cigarettes shit. It's cheaper than regular cigs and you can work your way down in Nicotine concentration.

Nicotine rewrites your nurons so that they believe you need it to surive. Typicaly its just electrical impulses from your brain for you to do something but with Nicotine and all the other crap in cigs it rewrites it to beleive you need it to survive thats why when smokers quit there jittery quicker to anger etc because there brain is having to ween themselves off of it and the nurons aren't recieveing the signals correctly cause you dont have enougn nicotine in your body

I strongly suggest you use the gum and if you live in Australia you should ring the QuitLine (i don't know America's equivalent) and they'll design a routine to help you quit. The sooner the better.

Good luck!

P.S. I think most people try slowly cutting down the smokes they have each day, starting with a larger amount of nicotine in their gum/patches, and as they reduce the amount of smokes they have they ease themselves off the gum or patches.

I'm sure there's something similar in the US, so I'll look into it. Unfortunately, the instructions on the box my patches came in said explicitly NOT to smoke and use the patch at the same time, since that can sort of kill you. :(

They are legal almost everywhere besides Australia, and apparantly very effective. Give it a shot.
[sub](Also they look cool.)[/sub]
They look cool do they?
Why can't you just stop smoking? That's what I did when I had to give up for a bit, well didn't have to it just happened.
I don't understand why people say it's so hard to quit because I'm not addicted to it at all yet have been at times on a pack a day.

Suggestions?

Um I don't smoke but I'll think of something...

Find something to fill the void when you're really feeling the need for nicotine. Get addicted to something else, something healthier...
