I've been on the site for awhile and it seems like unless you quote somebody no one will really have a conversation with you.

It seems like most threads end up being just a list of people's thoughts instead of a discussion.

So what do you think?

Do you ever add to what you say to try and get quoted?

EDIT: The Kurtz thing is a reference to Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness (or Coppola's Apocalypse Now)

I don't actively try, though I get quoted a good bit on my more active days.

If you contribute something that adds to the topic, you are much more likely to get quoted than if you just express the same opinion as everyone else. Try to be creative =).

I never attempt to be quoted, sometimes it just happens. It seems to happen very rarely however... Usually I'll just state my two cents and move on. I'll then go back to the topic only if I get a response.

I guess I just have words of wisdom, that all wish to use.

OT: I only tend to contribute if I either
a) have something to add
b) saw something that someone said I wish to quote (mainly for discussion based reasons, though there are occasions when I quote for other reasons)
c) have an uncontrollable urge to add my opinion (let's call it blue) into a giant vat of varying shades of blue.

Well quoting gives you that little notification , and the conversation is still public. So, its a conversation that opens up more conversation. Unlike simple PM conversations.
