The ME3 demo has come out and multilayer doesn't completely suck YAY!
Anyway one of the things that completely pissed me off was how you unlock new races and weapons Yes i'm talking about the random boxes of goodies.

I have played this game all day i'm bloody 8th in my country but I still haven't unlocked another race and it has completely pissed me off I have gone through about 12 veteran packs and still nothing.
Anyway how does everyone else think about this and the back away from actually unlocking the races through skill and dedication.

I really don't mind it.

Although that's probably because I just got a Krogan.

I decked him out in hot pink armour and charged around headbutting people to death and generally not giving a shit. Good times.

I don't care because the ME combat was always sluggish and cumbersome, garnishing it with Gears boredom didn't really help that out.

Clearly the system is intend to keep you grinding and spending money on maps and what not, EA couldn't quite beat CoD with BF so now they have ME to fill the gap.

Can't really say because I haven't got a chance to play the multiplayer portion of the demo yet.

But a word of advice that I've heard: Don't play as a drell vanguard. They're apparently terrible (low barrier & low health from what I'm told)

The multiplayer is the special ops Co-op. There is no 'campaign' co-op for ME3.

As for the boxes, I rather like the idea, because I've been trying to see if I should wait for the Veteran boxes or blow the credits on Recruit boxes. It also gives me the feeling that I have to wait instead of unlocking that awesome character immediately and then getting bored after I get them to level 20.

Well thats certainly a disappointment.

I had this whole idea of doing the campaign with a friend, I guess I will have to change my vote then.

As someone who doesn't want to touch Mass Effect 3 until it comes out, can someone explain exactly what the OP is refering to? Is the weapon/race unlocking system the same as Call of Duty or something?

Here's an example:

I made a female human Sentinel named "Trillian". When I play as Trillian, she gains XP from the matches she plays in. She alone uses this XP to level up her abilities. In addition, she gains credits for all my characters, which is the currency for the multiplayer store. The store (as it stands in the demo) contains two items: a lower-cost pack and a higher cost pack. The lower-cost contains a few single-use items (buffs, med packs, that sort of thing), and has the low possibility of containing "uncommon items" (i.e. weapons, races, special weapon mods). The higher-cost pack costs 4x the small pack, but contains triple the amount of single-use items (instead of 1 med pack, you get 3 med packs, for instance), along with at least one of these uncommon items, guaranteed. The items can be used by any character you create, and the races open up, well, races. Many are locked to begin with.

OT: As long as they don't try to push me too hard to actually pay for these packs with real money, the system works just fine for me.

Okay, that sounds reasonable. The only way that I'd have a problem with it is if I have a problem with the Multiplayer mode in general, which I will try on my second play through[footnote]Out of between 6 and ten. Fanboy, this one is.[/footnote].

Also, is it an official thing now that Krogan can't be Vanguards? Because that would make me a sad panda.

Didn't TF2 do something similar? Except you needed to pay to unlock the boxes? I don't know

I like what i've seen of it so far though, as long as microtransactions either A. stay out or B. not replace/overshadow the in-game currency. Preferably A

Still the randomness of it makes it more fun right? You'd probably get bored of your super badass character if you could just cherry pick all the best gear from the word go.

The MP isn't out 'til tomorrow but i've seen some videos and the gameplay looks surprisingly solid. Not quite sure how Bioware pulled it off, isn't this their first multiplayer mode ever?

I think some of it is a good idea - it forces variety. I'd be going Asari Vanguard or something if I could, but I pulled Quarian Engineer. I'd be using a Phalanx pistol, but I don't have one, so I'm using a Mattock and mixing up Incinerate with headshots. If it wasn't for that, pretty much everyone would be rolling with the same, rather than mixing it up as they get new things.

That said, you get something you really don't want, than you're screwed. They should have a selling system, where you're allowed to sell back junk at diminished price. For instance, I have a level 5 Shuriken. The Shuriken sucks. That would give me some money back.

I'm not too keen on the idea of supplies. The in-combat emergency supplies I initially didn't like, but every now and again, you find yourself pinned down and out of ammo, and it's a life-saver. But I don't like the 1-time pre-game buffs - I don't really see the point. Wait, never mind, maybe that's handy if you're going on a silver/gold difficulty run. Still, I wish they wouldn't just dump junk on us.
