The UFC has been around for about 15 years and has moved it's way into becoming an accepteable part of society. Me I don't like it. Though I've never given any thought to it, I saw an add for it today and there was this gigantic, cheering crowd behind the fighters. And it was to take place in an illustrious Las Vegas hotel. The kind of hotel, that to get into you have to be corporate giant or a renowned diamond thief. And I thought to myself " Are these people enjoying this?" So I was curious what the Escapist community thinks of the UFC.

I'm not sure if UFC is shown in Europe and Austraila, so I'll give a quick explanation.

The UFC(Ultimate Fighting Champions) is a mixed martial arts compitition, where two men enter a cage, barefoot shorts and slightly padded fingerless gloves. And they fight. To the bloody, broken nosed finish(not death, but pretty damn close).

As much as combat has been in man's historical entertainment roots (see the Roman Coliseum), I will never accept it as entertainment. Two people beating each other up for money, power, and prestige, please. Boxing, modern hockey (fighting on ice), and utltimate fighting are just like the gladiator games: bloody, ruthless, and completely for the entertainment of somebody they'll never meet. Except no one dies. And no lions.
