Ever since I was a wee twat, I've had an obsession with piloting a giant robot. This goes back to watching Power Rangers and loved the Megazords. As I grew older, I discovered anime and after discovering a few mecha anime (Dai-guard, GunXSword, New Getter Robo), quickly rekindled the flames of my childhood obsession with greater frenzy than a hundred horny male chimps in a cage with one female chimp in heat.
Now, when it comes to mecha themselves, I would prefer to pilot a super robot. While I would fly Layzner, the ARX 007 or a Valkyrie, I prefer something that can take a hit (as my performance in FPS has shown me). That and screaming out attack names while my theme song plays to let the enemy know they are fucked.
I kinda prefer real robot stories for the character growth and plot. I mean, yeah, evil aliens from planet Cthulhu trying to take over earth and I have to stop them with my super robot is alright for boyish fantasy. But when there is a team dynamic, it makes room for friendship, rivalries and heroic sacrifice.
Ideally, I would pilot an overpowered mecha in a war of dueling ideologies and indeterminate morality. Yes, I would be God-moding, but shut it! Its my fantasy war.
