Never been TOO big on mecha to begin with, but seeing as Front Mission 3 was my second favorite PS1 game, I'll go for the more realistic based on that.

I'm pretty fluid on mech designs, I like both the arthopodial, tank-like western designs and the more smooth, humanoid japanese envisioned ones.

But I prefer "real" robotic warfare with bullets, missiles, and plasma cannons over the ones with flashy, final fantasy, Dragon ball Z powers fueled by soul power or spirit energy, love, friendship, or whatever nonsense D.E.M.. Gurren Lagann and the later Gundam series' fall into the latter category, but I can ignore them as long as they're just finishing moves/trump cards and the like and not the opening gambit or battle standard to any robot fight.

How can you NOT mention Super Robot Wars under super robot!

OT- Ok technically I guess I fall under Super Robot (however I loved Gundam Iron Blood Orphans due to how robust the combat were) but I only liked it to a certain degrees! At least with most Gundam series, they don't shout out their attacks (Kira never shout out his spam cannons!) nor do their female pliots were skimpy suit eventhought it suppose to be a pliot suit!

Totally real world war, because whats the point of giant robots that can hop around, shoot lighting and pull a Sailor Moon?! They need to be big, clunky and realistic, like the Mechwarrior stuff. I always felt why bother having the giant robot if it never feels giant and moves like a Sayan/Ninja/Superhero? Just skip the robot and have the superhero.

So yeah, realistic all the way.

Also titanic boobs again huh? And those seem more like girls in barely there power armor than giant robots with ballistics. This is a much better mecha girl
Fantastic! And I see you added some Shimmering Sword in there as well so bonus points for you.

Well they can be fantasy and all sorts but at some point I do need consistency, a character or robot without flaws and without consistent flaws feels real cheap.
The worst kids of writing you can do is invent new power out of thin air, which is still very common in all media, one moment the baddies are winning the fight for no apparent reason and in the next they suddenly become paper targets, and now the good guys super crazy insane powers of magic.
That is a very very shit way to do things and it leaves the audience without any sense of what the hell is going on.

I prefer my mechs on the "Real" end of the scale, but with a touch of the Fantastic/Super.

The titular Mecha from Armored Core V are a fairly good example of what I mean: On one hand, they're relatively small for Mecha (18-25 feet tall), need to work in groups, and their thrusters just let them jump higher/run faster rather than fly.

On the other hand, they're agile enough to wall jump, and can mount some pretty over-the-top weaponry, like a giant laser cannon nearly the same size as they are, or a six-bladed chainsaw-gatling-drill... thing.

Real robots, please. While I do think super robots can be a ton of fun (especially if they're on rollerskates and have a theme song), I usually enjoy the stories involving real robots more. Old-school Gundam is my kind of thing and I adore the Front Mission games.

Real robots. If I wanted a superhero, I'd watch a superhero.

I never got the appeal of the super robot. I mean, isn't the idea of a robot to be a power fantasy for the viewer/pilot? A superhero robot just removes the point. At that rate, you could just have a superhero. It's the same thing!

Real robots are dumb too, but at least they are treated like military equipment.

"Who digs giant robots? I dig giant robots!"

For real though, I honestly don't know. On one hand, I like stuff like Megas XLR and Jaegers from Pacific Rim. On other, the idea of mass produced fighting machines is also appealing.

I'll give a cop-out answer: majority of the fighting force of, for example, army is made of mass produced machines, but there ARE more powerful, special, custom machines for especially talented pilots.
