For arguments sake, lets say I just got a PS3 and I'm heading to the shops to get a new game. I have MGS4 and that's it because I've had Play Stations before, and MGS is a no brainer. So I'm wondering - what with the relatively small back catalogue - which PS3 game I should get to add to my miniscule collection for maximum win...

I'd also say that my personal tastes are a Good Story, Epic Awesomeness and a sense of accomplishment. Also, value for money would be a good aspect, as I can only get one of them.

...GTA IV?
...Assassin's Creed?
...Uncharted: Drake's Fortune?
...Devil May Cry 4?
...Armored Core 4?
...Other? Got any suggestions?
I think I've covered all the good games, at least the one's that I'm interested in the most. Though I might have missed a gem.

Released games only, this hypothetical gamer is looking to buy something soon. ^_^

Let the discussion commence...

Pressed the button too soon! Thread text coming soon!!!
So you decided to type that rather than the tread text?
Damn you people reply fast.
I saw a new thread clicked on it and displayed my opinions.
Anyway I recommend DMC4. It isn't as good as 3 but if you like DMC then get it.

I personally liked Assassin's Creed.

But as an other I would suggest Resistance: Fall of Man. It's been out a while so I don't know how much it costs where you are but where I live it's still full price. And the second one is coming ou soon. If it becomes popular and you decide to get it it might be good to have the back-story as it is very detailed

Drakes Fortune is the only exclusive on your list but it's a gooder if you like "Old Fashioned Rip Snorting Adventures" that plays like Prince of Persia meets Gears of War, more of the gameplay is focused on the gunfighting though and the platforming is pretty easy overall.

I found Lair to be pretty fun once you get used to it but I always liked the Rogue Squadron games anyways.

The Darkness is selling for 20 bucks now and is really good stuff.

i liked lair as well, the sixaxxis in that game isn't hard and they got an analog control patch

the darkness was good and it's cheap too

i liked stranglehold too, get the collector's edition cause you get the bonus of having the full movie of hard boiled as well

GTA IV would be the perfect game if you can only have one. You can play it like a first person shooter or a 3D adventure game. The game can be as long as you want. It depends on if you just play through the story or if you do all the side missions and really develop relationships with the characters in the game to get the rewards they offer.

Also playing online is just plain fun. I was not much of an online gamer before GTA. Now I spend hours online. This gives GTA the highest replay value of all the games you listed.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a pretty fun and solid platformer.

Though, all I've got in my PS3 library is that, Metal Gear Solid 4, Armoured Core 4, and Call of Duty 4. Assassin's Creed is good, but short, maybe Gamefly that. Bioshock is also slated for the PS3, so might save a few pennies for that.

Assassin's Creed, even if only played once through, will let you see what your PS3 is capable of. Additionally, it has a ridiculous amount of freedom of movement. Very enjoyable.

I'm also sure you can't go wrong with GTA4
