I stand in a very weird position, I am a highly spiritual person and believe in Karma mystic connection between all of us and maybe even fate. On the other hand I'm very very VERY anti religious. There is just so many things wrong with it. So maybe there is a god or a creator of some kind but for sure there is no Santa Clause I see you when you sleeping I know when you sin kind of God. So their might be a God, I am a pretty stupid person and do not for a second think I know the answer.... but I sure know that these stories from the DARK AGES that people use to brainwash other people out of their money are pull bullshit.


I put a 6 maybe there is some kind of God but the general idea of God is BS

I am a three point zero in that I am not sure if there is a God or not but I mostly think that there is a God. However, if he does indeed exist then I am not sure what he (or she, in the spirit of open-mindedness) wants me do to about it.

If you are thinking of the Christian god, I think it's pretty safe to say "He".

I believe in the concept of God, not in the same manner as theism would imply, but rather with an understanding that the natural flow of the universe is, in itself, divine. Though each religion may label this a different thing, the irrefutable existence of God is inseparable from the irrefutable existence of existence itself, with intelligent design existing via evolution being equivalent to the universe molding life through necessity, and divine awareness existing as each of our individual awarenesses. God is the universe, as through extension of being a part of the universe, we (and everything else) are He.

I wonder if we have a word for that? It's not atheist, agnostic, or fundamentalism. Perhaps it's simply awareness.

I often refer to myself as an Agnostic - that there may or may not be a god and it's something a person won't know until they die, but I really lean more towards a heavy skepticism of the existence of a higher being and near athiestic.

If I were a religious man (and I used to be as a kid), I'd border somewhere between Catholicism - the latin and the services and reverence of "God" are fascinating, but I(and I realise how this sounds but this goes for all 'christianity' and I honestly don't mean to offend)

My opinion is organised religions cause more problems than they solve (social division and repression of mankinds mental advancement) and that true worship should not be dependant on one set of scripture or place (if a certain deity is everywhere, why does one have to go to a specific building for the associated rites and prayer to be performed?) - I view all holy texts as different viewpoints of the same thing; chiefly mankinds fear of death and mantaining order and morality).

But being a man of scientific nature I'd have to see evidence one way or another before I really believed in any kind of worship. I think religion had/has it's place (that of a method of passing down good morals for a functioning society) but it's now too dated in current civilisation.

In short, I do toy with the idea of a higher-being watching all our lives, but I severely doubt it is the case. Everone is entitled to their opinion (apart from those who won't leave you alone or shut up when you have politely informed them you do not wish to be preached to) and what people believe (within social norms of course) is up to them.

I voted 7 as it's the closest, but technically there is no way anything can ever be 100% certain in this universe IMHO.

I'd put myself as 6.9 or similar on that scale, as there has been no evidence whatsoever to support the existence of God(s) and i also see no reasons why there should be any.

Approximately 5. I'm willing to accept the possibility, but I'm not going to act on a religion until someone can prove to me without a shadow of a doubt that God (or Allah, or whatever the Jews call their diety) does exist and this is how to avoid a one-way ticket to Hell (or that religion's equivalent.)

I feel the same way, just in the opposite direction. There is no God. I am sure of it. If one chooses to believe differently, so be it. Religion does good for people. I simply draw the line at killing or destroying for a God. Radicalism an any direction is a very bad thing, and leads to nearly every single problem mankind has ever seen, and probably ever will see.

I think you misunderstand. Ofcouse there are people like that. I don't respect them and I also think that they are being closeminded idiots. I understand they exist and understand why they believe with such certainty, but I certainly don't respect them.

So if God, who I severely doubt exists, presented himself to you and with scientific methods we determined he was infact the deity of the Christian religion....you would still not believe?

i can't honestly say how i'd react in that situation, as it is hypothetical and i have never been confronted with a serious dilemma like that. however, i tend to be set in my ways, and generally don't sway from my views. when evidence has proved me wrong before, my mind automatically searches for ways that it could be false, before accepting it. call me close-minded and ignorant if you will, but i just think that i am a very thorough sceptic

I'm about 4-5. There may be a god but if there isn't and you die you don't lose much but if there is a god and you do die not believing in him/her then there might be consequences.

I am curious, how exactly would you prove that God exists, or does not exist?

From what I have seen, people who believe in God usually do so as a matter of faith. Although they can site examples of creative design, miracles, and other suppossedly "God" inspired things, it always boils down to faith. As well it should, since it is a matter of spirituallity rather than science. In Christianity, faith in Jesus/God is the point. So it becomes more of an issue of whether you believe the idea, rather than ability to prove the existence.

For people who claim athieism, the question is equally if not more confusing. Since God is a considered a spiritual being by most people, there is no scientific evidence that can be applied. If there is no scientific evidence, then you must rely on YOUR ability to accept a God or not. Which quickly spirals into ridiculousness. How does not liking the way the world works and thinking life is unfair or unjust, prove that there is no God? Just because things don't happen the way you think they should, doesn't mean there is no God.

Maybe it would be a better world for everyone if the religious relied on faith to influence the non-religious, rather than invading privacy, attacking, and insisting everyone except them was going to hell. Maybe it would be a better world if the atheist's and others like them stopped antagonizing, insulting, and attacking the beliefs of the religious.

I would just like to say, briefly and slightly off-topic, that I'm very happy to see very mature and normal posts here. No soap boxing, no preaching, no degradation of the conversations. Simple questions put out, and simple statements of faith (Or lack thereof) without an air of superiority (From what I've seen thus far, at least).

I hope this thread becomes one of the rare few and stays that way.

agnostics, you annoy me. I chose 7 because 6.9 is closer. Ive thought about it, and I dont not think god exists. 0% chance. but then we all need to agree on what "god" is first so we can come to an arrangement. Because omnipotent and all powerful are kinda vague....what qualify s as all powerful anyways?
anywho, no we do not now KNOW for certain god doesnt exist. But ive lived long enough to know there is nothing fantastical about the universe except its very existence, that cannot be proved or disproved. the god concept was invented by people, that much i know. I dont really trust people because they tend to do stupid stuff(religion) or believe in irrelevant things(god/souls/ghosts). And i especially dont trust a 2000 year old book that has seen way too many incompetent translators for it to make sense anymore.

Just so you know Lullabye there is a ~5000 year old predecessor, the Tora and it is in its original language, to that 2000 year old book, but I will admit that translations are extremely non-concurrent to the originals and only a five year old would believe those fairy tales. Nevertheless archaeological evidence suggests that Humans have believed in higher entities since the Cro-Magnon times, circa 40000 years ago.

I'm between a 2 and a 3. I think there's a god. I don't know if it's a man, a woman, asexual, or something that we've never encountered before. I don't adhere to any one religion. I just go with my gut feelings, and to each their own.
