We've all seen the commercials. "Pre-order [new game here] now and receive an exclusive [something] pack free!" Now, this was fine when the DL was something like a vehicle skin, like in Halo Wars, which did not change game play. But now this stuff is getting more influential in game play, like weapon and armor upgrades.
I feel that this in turn changes the essence of a game. Discuss.

Weapons and armour upgrades do not alter the game in the slightest except make it marginally easier, they're nothing to get huffy about.

I don't like it..when i bought mag i had 3 choices...buy it from Gamestop and get the special SVER bonus armor...or i could go down the street to BestBuy and get it with the special Valor bonus armor...ORRR i could get it online from Amazon(i think) and get the Raven bonus armor..took awhile to figure out which one i wanted..i eventually went with BestBuy as i had a gift card for it...now i don't think many games have split it up like this but it made me mad for awhile.till then they released them all on PSN for free so i got the other 2 and was happy but still...was hard to pick at first.

as long as the different upgrades are eventually available to everyone, i guess thats ok. but still. its like getting a different ending to a movie depending on what store you buy it from.

Most of the stuff I see on commercials and stuff looks like total crap. RDR for ps3 gives you a STUPID hat. And the ME2 doom cannon thing looked way to good to be taken seriously, if that makes any sense. The one time I preordered halo wars for my bro for christmas, we didn't even get the warthog thing. So to sum it up, its crap, its dumb. But thats how I feel about DLC in general

This kind of crap has been pissing me off for a while, where there are 18 different versions of a game available depending on where you buy it from and whether it's the normal or deluxe or limited or collector's edition, especially since usually the stuff you lose by choosing one version isn't available later. It really irritates me with movies and music, too, like where there'll be different "bonus" tracks on an album depending on whether you buy it from iTunes or Amazon or a CD from Best Buy or Wal-Mart or any of three different places.

I've just given up and not bought any version of some things like that out of protest (and not downloaded it or copied it from someone else, either, for that matter). Not that it'll do any good, since most people don't care, but it makes me feel slightly better sometimes and is an excuse for not spending money on stuff that I shouldn't be spending money on in the first place. Heh.
