Have you ever read a review that condemns a game that everyone you know is droning on about being major awesome-ness? (or Cpt amazing-ness if your that way inclined)

Alternatively, have your friends been constantly bullying a release that media seems to think may be the second coming?

Whose opinion do you usually side with, and who is often the right party? or do you go to a store cash in hand and poke anything with an interesting cover?

Thoughts?

You always get the reviewer who goes against the majority, either to a) get more publicity or b) because in that instance the majority are morons.

My friends tend to always go for the popular/well known games so, nope.

I buy games based on my own opinion not others.

This.
Alot of reviewers nowadays are so biased that I can't take them seriously, and a certain circle of friends I hang out with are complete idiots.

This. However, I do hear people complaining about a game being terrible when all the reviewers said it would change the gaming world, and vice-versa. As for who I most trust, that would be no one. Most of my friends like different styles than me, and reviewers are being paid so they can't be listened to most of the time. I look at demos and trailers and decide for myself.

While I enjoy reviews, I don't take them seriously. They're more for entertainment than actual insight.

Players know better whether a game is good or bad, if you're willing to wade through tripe to get to them.

I've stopped paying attention to reviews. They've failed me in the past, and I've tried, as of late, to only purchase games that I've already played.

When there's a high-profile release game coming out, like InFamous or Killzone 2, I always look up a multitude of reviews to see the general consensus of a game. Usually I'm going to buy it anyway, but it doesn't hurt to see the flaws that many people see or how the consensus of people enjoy it. If it's really that horrible that most general people hate it then I'll most likely be put off buying the game.

It annoys me when I see a person trust one site for reviews and put down all the rest because they "aren't accurate" or some crap. You don't go to Wikipedia for your single source in a history project, you go to many different sites to research and see if you can find more facts. Same thing with games, you look at a multitude of reviews and see how the general consensus of a game is.

The walruses are always right as well as the penguins meaning I'M RIGHT meaning the gamer is right.

I think both groups can be equally flawed, except reviewers get paid for their opinion whilst players can turn fanatical for free.

I usually hear opinions from both camps (with a healthy fistful of salt), but ultimately the only opinion which matters when I play a game is my own.

I've loathed games which reviewers and gamers have loved, and I've also loved games which reviewers and gamers have loathed.

I check vids and metacritic then make my own decisions I never buy a game based on one review. my most recent example of bad review would be prototype great game and IGN literally said that it was too fun or something along those lines... because fun is overrated

Everyone has failed me at some point. Reveiwers on mirrors edge, players on metal gear solid and myself on sonic TSR and bleach shattered blade.... (dont ask...)

Reviews are untrustworthy because of conflicts of interest with advertisers. Gamers are untrustworthy because the vast majority of the video game community falls over themselves rushing to be the first and loudest to proclaim how much every video game ever released sucks. If I had to choose one to trust, I'd choose reviewers, but I don't do that; I haven't bought a game without trying the demo in ages.

I'd trust the opinion of a walrus over that of a human.

Reviewers can't be trusted.
Players are idiots.

And generally since they are paid to do what they do, and unless they are getting paid for bias reviews from sponsors (GAMESPOT), their opinions on the game are normally well based. The majority of the gaming fanbase ESPECIALLY now is a bunch of casuals or youth, who can barely reason logically let alone find viable faults and benefits in a game.
They don't have to get paid, there's still the whole problem of "oh, poor review? You no longer get a free early copy to review the game"
Also, fans. Try posting a negative review of a popular game and watch your mail box get flooded with thousands of hate mails.
