Of all the Doctor Who threds I have seen people seem to be divided on River Song and I want to know which is in the minority.

Personaly I hate River Song. I have been very underwhelmed since 11th came and Moffat took over but River has been the worst thing. Time can be rewriten (at least it could but with Moffat in charge he may just ignore that) so hopfully her death will change and someone will kill her soon. With fire. Lots of fire.

I really hate this woman. Everything about her is unsettling. The entire reveal as to who she was was stupid enough on its own, the character herself is unlikeable to me.

The best way I can describe her to someone who doesnt watch the show is, "like that old British chick from uncharted 3". There's also the fact that she shoots the fuck out of everything when the Doctor would flip his shit if Harkess drew a weapon. And finally, the scene in "Big Bang" with her and the Dalek. They made one of the most threatining villains in the history of the show do something out of character to make River look like a badass, and it just felt wrong.

I think she was poorly executed.
There was certainly good ideas going for her, a companion through time, who did not stay with the doctor but was still with him on his journeys. But in the end her backstory was very lacking and to be honest, it was terrible.

The character WAS fine until the 11th doctor, not that I'm blaming Matt Smith but the writing for DW just went out the window.

I thought she was mostly fine. Her character's depth wasn't all that great; a bit repetitive, but the role she filled was interesting - and I actually enjoyed her twist(s). If she had been written more realistically and less like a cartoon in her 11th Doctor appearances, I think it would have been much better.

But hate her? No. I reserve that for RTD, and what he did to Martha and Rose.

She was great when she was first introduced in that library episode with David Tennant but her character soon got old.

The Library when she was introduced was good, I liked her character and liked the concept. But last season, I think it is generally agreed, the writing seemed to go through the floor and her character just became an irritating caricature. Not to mention I think they really missed an opportunity for some adventures with a young River by just jumping straight to old irritating River.
And now I hate her, and I hate that I hate her because when she was first introduced I thought the character had so much potential.

River Song? Meh. Mildly annoying, sometimes increasingly so, very Sue-ish.

As I recall, there's an episode with her in it in the most recent season, but I haven't seen it yet.

That said, I think she's a decent character, but that might just be because she's always in the episodes with the good villians. Like the shadows in the library, the angels, and the Silence, or the aliens that belong to the order of the Silence, whatever they are. Also, River is usually around whenever they use the 'ghosting' concept, which is a really cool idea, in my opinion.
So basically, I haven't worried too much about River, because there's usually a lot more going on to be interested in. But it is nice for the Doctor to have someone to flirt with, considering that's what everyone ever always does to him.

There are no words for how incredibly stupid I found the whole
River is Amy and Rory's daughter...
thing, seriously that kind of stupendous fuckwittery makes me hate River so much. I blame Moffat.

I don't hate River...I just find her Overpowered in a sense. She just kinda came out of nowhere and became someone important, without being a main character. She's the Fix-It Fairy, popping in when needed and leaving when not.
