I just recently got back into RP's and am just wondering what most people prefer doing in terms of time periods. Whether the future, the present, the past or made up times are your thing.

And by RP, I mean the role playing that takes place on this site.

Creating worlds is fun, but sometimes it works best to go with an established setting, and go wild on characters. Dystopias are a favourite because it gives people something to fight against. Letting out the inner rebel, naturally. Also provides a flaw straight off.

I prefer a 1920's setting, like they have in Call of Cthulhu.
Otherwise, Steampunk is always a big favourite.

I always enjoyed the more recent Final Fantasy games how they would mix magic, swordplay and guns all into the one world, and yet somehow they made it seem plausible. Clever how they managed that.

That's what Square Enix is good at. I'm excited to see how they did on FFXIII.

But yeah, I guess it all really depends on how you want the story to go.

FFXII certainly looks much more futuristic than anything else we've seen from a Final Fantasy (have you seen how Lightning's weapon can transform into either a gun or sword? Very slick) but we'll have to wait and see if they pull it off when it comes out (fingers crossed here)
