Poll: RRoD, is it gone

I have been offered a jasper chip X-Box 360 for a quarter of the price off, they say it won't red ring because of this chip yet there are video's like this

Some people say this video fake but can you even do that? I really don't want to pay for a console which might red ring, as I have the money for live and the console but no warrenty. Thanks

Mine works awesome, after my first one broke I was so pleased they replaced it with a new Jasper.

It can't completely guarantee that the 360 won't Red Ring, as it just indicates a general system failure and so can still happen. However, it is true that Jasper drastically decreases the chances of your console bricking.

Although, even with Jasper, watch out for overheating. The 360 can be very temperature sensitive at times, the same applies to cold, and don't move it while it's on.

EDIT : That guy is really unlucky. That's all there is to it really, his console died on him and I feel for him. But in reality the chances of that happening are minuscule.

I've had my (Falcon) Xbox 360 for just over two years now. I've had the RRoD, four System Errors, three random freezes during gameplay, and one overheat, all of which were fixed by turning the console off then back on again. It was a minor inconvenience more than it was a console killing problem.

As I type this, mine is currently in a shop being fixed because one of the fans has stopped spinning.

Honestly, if Jasper is any improvement over Falcon, you've got nothing to worry about when it comes to the RRoD.

The RRoD was due to overheating and the glue used to hold down the CPU chip melted and made it float and the machine then took a shit and the three rings lit up red (Or so I've been told). That was apparently fixed with the '07 and above models (AFAIK). So it's surprising to see that in that youtube video you linked an MW2 console is buggered up.

I'd say take your chances, RRoD's are extremely uncommon among new 360's.

Though I did get a replacement in the mail last week, and MS was kind enough to give me a free month of Xbox Live Gold, and transfer all my DLC licenses for me.

i got my elite on launch day and ir RRoD almost 1 and a half years later, no complaints prior. was a quick replacement (within 1 week from date i sent it) and as mentioned by SilentHunter7, transferred DLC licenses and 1 month free live access
have had my second elite since then with no complaints.

I love all of the "My 360 never broke, therefore they are all reliable" and "I've had four 360's and they all broke, therefore they are all crap" arguments.

In fact, I love them so much I'll throw in my own. My 360 red-ringed just last week, and from this I can conclude that at least one Jasper is unreliable.

That's an extra $100, though. With that you could probably get a lifetime warranty on a 360 instead. So it doesn't really matter, just comes down to which exclusives you prefer.

Funny. I was in the store the otherday and if i remember correctly, Jasper Xbox360 cost 300$ aswell, not 200. Remember PS3 only cost 300$, now plus they come with a 120gig HDD

Although the riposte was rude, the joke was rubbish, actually it wasn't a joke at all.

Frequenz, to check if your Xbox is a falcon or jasper or whatever you'll need to google it, check the serial number on your Xbox and match it up to what the internet says.
