I nearly ruined Fallout 3 when I discovered the console.

Just don't do it. You'll succeed in the end, and it'll be more fun.

If I spend say half an hour trying to figure out what to do next, I'll just quickly check that particular part on a walkthrough.

Cheating to actually get through the game on the first playthrough is a no-go though.

I use walkthroughs if I can't find a door painted jet black in a game as pitch black as it would be if I had actually turned off the TV and not noticed and for particularly hard boss fights. Then there are games that utterly freak me out and I either want to know the next enemy encounters (Condemned, BioShock) or where EXACTLY to go through the room or section so I get through it with minimal heart attacks (F.E.A.R. 2 massive room filled to the brim with escaped Abominations).

I only use cheat codes after I've finished a sandbox game so I can dick around...except if I'm playing GTA (only ever played II, III, Vice City and San Andreas) because I have done like three GTA missions in my life and they bored me. So all I do in those games is dick around, which means infinite ammo, all weapons, max stars, spawn a helicopter, go to the highest point in the game, survive for as long as possible.

I only use cheat codes after I have beaten the game once. But I'll use walkthroughs anytime.

To me, walkthroughs are like a more knowledgeable person passing on information to correctly solve a puzzle, while cheat codes are the guilty "get out of jail" free cards. One is much more rewarding then the other in the long run.

Only if i am stuck really long or if i try to find all hidden collectibels. Like the blue orbs and hidden missons in DMC4. And cheat codes i do mostly use in GTA games to dick around.

Cheating really is a last resort. I often give up before cheating. Should I require help I will go for a walkthrough before a cheat code. Though, too often I have found that the walk through was written poorly so I am confused with the walkthrough as well as the game.

well depends. sometimes ill use warp cheats if i need to get by something that causes a glitch or the sort, but if at all possible i try it myself and maybe look up a quick FAQ on it if needed to see what to use.

Normally it's a walkthrough and/or lower the difficulty for that mission

Walkthroughs are a bad habbit of mine when playing adventure games. UHS is gold on that. Mostly it's a case of simply not noticing a pixel-sized object in a dark corner or something like that so I don't feel I just didn't give it enough thought.

I once checked a walkthrough because a group fight went on for so long with baddies spawning over and over I started to wonder if I was supposed to just leg it somewhere. Turned out it was just a drawn out fight. Still, it was a relieve to know the game would run out of monsters eventually.

I used to cheat a lot as a little kid. Nowadays, I just go and ask my boyfriend for help, in the kind of games I tend to get stuck, that usually helps :p
