It really depends on how far into the game I am. I played DMC, first room, I have to collect all the red orbs to get through the door. Find all of them except one. Turn it off, give my brain a chance to relax, try again a week later. Same deal. I give up forever and have never given a DMC game a second look - that's plain bad game design - finding the last red orb isn't a fun type of challenge, having a puzzle challenge in a game (and this wasn't even a puzzle) about slashing and shooting enemies in gratuitous fashion isn't fun either - the only acceptable fun is the insanely hard boss battles - I had to try the first boss in Ninja Gaiden Sigma at least 50 times - it was hard but at least it's something that's satisfying to finally beat, finding the last red orb I just quit. When playing Klingon Honor Guard I was about half way through and couldn't find a secret door because there wasn't a visual clue and I was expected to miss an enemy and open it but didn't actually miss them, so the door never opened. I used a passwall cheat to move on.
I'll use a walkthrough when I find that my time would be better spent playing the game and not jumping up and down against a wall.

Once i've finshed i may cheat /ti make the game difrent (First Pokemon for instance)
Or to focus on other parts (all abillitys on ffta2 so i don't have to think about them)

When I was younger, I'd usually resort to the use of a walkthrough, however, in more recent years, I've become much more competitive in my gaming...in single player campaigns. I don't really play online too much, but when I do play, it's a battle of wits, and a fight to the death.
The only time I've used a guide of any kind (and no I'm not trying to brag lol) was when i first got Fire Pro Wrestling Returns and that was just to get the move lists and so I could edit the names to fit the real world wrestlers instead of the generic names they gave them.
Still, the way I look at it is as long as you're not cheating during a competitive game and you are having fun while using them, then I don't see a problem with it.
