SR3 is prettier than SR2 but pretty much inferior in every other way.

Saints Row 2 had three well defined gangs with their own well defined territory and a natural progression as the game went along, taking territory after territory, unable to purchase businesses in an area until you had control of it gave the expansion even more purpose. Each of the three gangs had a well defined story progression that added three well meshed side stories to the overall campaign and there was clear benefit to defeating each gang in turn.

In SR3, there are no defined borders, the storyline is shoddy at best, and there is no real benefit to doing anything story related. They have substituted progressive story telling missions for forced participation in the mini games from the last game rather than actually have the writers spend more than an afternoon coming up with a plot. What plot there is is marred by crappy disjointed cutscenes, some of which appear to be missing, with no attempt at coherent continuity.

Example 1: The unexplained cutscene with the woman cutting the ribbon on the bridge while the saints watch for some unknown reason only to be rushed by the Luchadores. The conversation afterwards involves Shaundi saying that Killbain is going to die for what he did at Johnny's funeral. Funeral? What funeral? He had a funeral? They never even definitively said what happened to him. You fell out of the jet in the beginning and started milk run missions with only a couple hints that he was even dead.

Example 2: After Killbain kills one of the Dewinter twins, a couple of missions later, Zimos is still referring to them as "the Dewinter sisters". Really? Next youll be telling me I need to put the squeeze on Mr. Loren.

The clothing options were far better in SR2, there are about half the options in 3 that there were in two. Also, automotive customization felt so much more in depth before. Even with the different levels of durability you can purchase in 3, it feels like it's just a pointless money sink to get me to the same place a single purchase got me in the last game.

SR2 was a great mesh of mayhem, fun and story that made me feel like I had power and authority as I slaughtered the masses, SR3 is nothing more than a shiny fuck around engine that is already getting old while I get forced into another crap mini game in place of a purpose driven mission and when I finish that, I'll have nothing on the map to show for it.

I am a die hard fan of the series and I was looking forward to SR3 since they announced it but overall it is just a cash in on the popularity of the second installment.

P.S. The music in SR2 was also better.

I don't even have to play SR3 to say yes, better than Skyrim.
I'm curious as to how? They seem like two completely different ends of the spectrum and I hardly think passing glances would be enough to make a conclusion. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to decide which.
Having played Skyrim and found it not really all that much better than Oblivion, it was pretty easy for me to come to that conclusion.

I have to say, I found The 3rd a great game. I loved SR2, but the new one kept me unable to stop. Something I noticed was that in the 2nd, they put a good amount of charm in the side missions, and playing them was as fun and had the same fulfilling tone as the story. In the 3rd, the story was given the charm and I enjoyed doing that more than the side missions. Plus there were some changes that were made that made fucking around not as fun as in the 2nd.

But storywise, it was quite good and very much underrated. I had more urge to play 3rd than Skyrim, but I've never fallen in love with the Elder Scrolls series, so maybe that's just on me

Day 1 DLC containing story missions seriously taints Saints Row The Third. THQ can kiss my ass if they believe that is even remotely acceptable.

Real cost for SR3: $80.

but the thing is, if someone doesnt like saints row 3, the fans of the series accept that and get on with their life. if you pubicly announce your dislike for skyrim, you get a legion of fanboys shoving their opinions down your throat mercilessly until you take it back.

i've played both and i think that saints row 3 is more enjoyable than skyrim. but if you disagree, fine.

I am sure it is a solid game and I would buy it if not for the DRM but nothing this generation even comes close to skyrim. Nothing.

I loved Saints Row 3. Hell, I've been called a minority but I prefer it to GTA just for lack of realism.
I haven't played Skyrim yet of course, but I do get the vibe that it'll be better than SR3 simply because of longevity and replayability.

I got SR3 on day of release and managed to '100%' it, 5 days later. But I had a fucking blast the entire time. Some of the activities were taken away from it's predecessor sadly, but nonetheless, it was a solid game and I wouldn't trade it in.
But as for fun? There are two different types of fun to compare between them because they're such different games. So far my GOTY is between SR3, Portal 2 and Arkham City. Will that change when I pick up Skyrim? Who knows.
...Then again, I can't be a Russian woman in a pirate hat, anime kitty backpack, a steampunk outfit and wielding the mighty Penetrator in Skyrim.

I have the situation opposite of yours good sir, I have Skyrim, but not Saints Row The Third. I have never played a Bethesda game before and the Elder Scrolls games are no exception: Skyrim is my introduction to that world. I have however, played Saints Row 2 and I loved it. I am highly anticipating playing the third installment!

It's better than a lot of games out there. Better than two in most regards, but still lacking in layering. I'm having more fun with that than I am with Skyrim, because Skyrim still has badly shaped carvings for people, where as Steelport had people with emotions, and stories, and changing expressions when instead of just going about my day I started spraying them with Fish Guts to attract subterranean sharks. Some of the faces on the mascots as I turn towards them in the Genki challenges are priceless. They look like they're messing their over sized hot dog costumes with all kinds of digestive byproduct. That's just fun I can't have while I wander the mountains, encountering Nords, and shouting at them.

For what it's worth, they're both great, but while I knew exactly what I was getting from Skyrim, Saint's Row The Third found a hundred little ways to surprise me. Not all were good, but most of them were amazing, if you follow. While I will probably play Skyrim for longer, I will always remember the entirety of Saints Row the Third, while a lot of Skyrim has a similar feel to it.

While no one can blame you for griping about Day One DLC, it being what it is in the gaming industry, which DLC are you talking about? The only DLC available on day one in this case were yet more exotic costumes and weapons. Almost three weeks on, and this is still the case. While more is planned to come, there's no story cut from the game for sale as DLC right now. Just extra pieces.

There's no missing cutscenes, rather it's vague in that scene, but the Saints aren't watching the ceremony, they're impatiently waiting in a convoy to have the funeral. Then Killbane attacks them.

I actually liked the way you fought all three enemy gangs as a united front, instead of as separate factions, because really by this point the Saints are an unstoppable juggernaut, you're fighting for the whole city, not just neighborhoods. Still I agree the game has it's flaws.

I can't even vote, cause while I feel like it took steps forward in some aspect, it feels like it took steps back in others, so I don't feel like the overall package is better or worse.

Regardless, it was still a fun game.

In my opinion, Skyrim is "better" than Saints Row 3. This is simply because SR3 is a quite a big disappointment while Skyrim has kept some of the hype true and seems to be a better sequel.

Nevertheless, SR3 is a good game however it's not the SR3 I expected after playing SR2, it seems to be a deduction so that they could milk us for DLC content. Volition/THQ is all grown-up.

Angry Joe's review sums-up my feelings.

I have a gut feeling that Yatzee is going to tear this game apart.

Better than previous ones for sure, BUT Saints Row 1 was one of the worst games I have ever played. Naturally that put me off 2. I played it around 2010, and It just felt so backwards. I played and enjoyed games such as PGR 3 and Kameo around the same time, but this game lost my attention after around 15 minutes. That's the least time I have put into any game ever. And one of only 2 or 3 I played and didn't finish, i'm usually pretty good with that.

Different games, different genres, different entertainment... There is very little above technical details like graphics, sound or controls that You can compare between the two. One day I may be in mood for playing SR the other i might feel like adventuring through SKyrim till i get arrow to my knee.

They both have issues, and neither is perfect.

To Answer your questions, this game plays out like a movie. You are exposed to certain elements of the story, not the characters within the game. And if you looked closely at the car your character was in at the bridge scene you will notice its a hearse. That was Johnny's funeral procession.

And To answer the original question. I like skyrim for the first 10 minutes and like all these new bethesda games I had to step away from them, when I do a quest and need to listen to the details I don't want some town yokel walking up to me talking about how there are dragons in the sky or being stared at by everyone in a room mid conversation. It's rather stupid. nonetheless both are good games but like everything in life its not perfect.

I think that SR2 as better then SR: The Third, I just feel that the second was better then the third. The story I thought as better in the second, the music and the gameplay. one of the things I wanted to do was pick up a near by lamp pot and start beating people to death with it, but I couldn't which annoyed me.

Also why is there less customisation, I loved that part of SR2, it annoys me when I can customise my guy a load.

On topic, no it isn't better then Skyrim but it is still hell good, I think that SR4 will be better then ever.

It's getting more attention than Skyward Sword :)

No, SR3's juvenile humor does not mean that it can't be a solid game. I hear Rayman Origins is a solid game and it seems to be aimed squarely at children. Saints Row 2 was a solid game and it was pretty juvenile. Earlier Grand Theft Autos, and how can we forget the insanity that was Conker's Bad Fur Day?

As for people on the Escapist, they seem to mostly receive the Saints Row series quite well thanks in part to this. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/312-Saints-Row-2]

Finally, as for my own opinion, I like the idea of presenting an incredibly crazy, morally bankrupt open-world game but other games this year are taking priority. I like Saints Row 2 but can hardly be called a huge fan, or even a fan at all, of it thus far - I bought it several months ago and haven't even put ten hours into it yet.
The fuck is Skyward Sword?

OT: I've seen some of Saints row 3 but not played it.. I still refuse to believe there are any games in the world much better than Skyrim, though.. I might pick it up..

SR3 is OTT, but the storyline is actually pretty damn good for the first three quarters. DAMN good game. Skyrim is, however, better.

I'm debating getting it after I get Batman Arkham City, It's competing with skyward sword to be bought lol. I really enjoyed SR2 but it will have to be damn good to be as good as Skyrim.
