I save a lot but that's only because I think of it a lot. Other times, I don't think of it at all and realize I've gone through an entire level without saving.

I just randomly save whenever something significant happens, so i dont lose anything if the game explodes.

Or crashes.
Whichever

I never save manually unless the auto-save has screwed me in the past (say, saving right before a big battle for which I am unprepared). There is no excuse for games not to have a functioning autosave.

Honorable Mention goes to Demon's Souls, which has no manual save, and autosaves after every change to your inventory. Did you accidentally attack the shopkeeper? He's mad at you forever!

Depends on difficulty/Speed of savings/Memory/Checkpoints.

I remember playin HalfLife1 on Hard where I saved after each mob and loaded if I wasted ANYTHING. :3

if you can save at anytime i tend to only occasionally save.. if there is a quick save button i'll abuse that one though.

A thought occurred to me this morning. Whilst playing Fallout: New Vegas I noticed I would save at one of three points. (1) When I was nearing a quest area and didn't want to be ambushed and lose my trek over, (2) when I was wondering the wasteland and I couldn't remember the last time I saved, and (3) right before I would do something "game changing" like sneaking through an off-limits door or punching a guy in the face for being a prick... (not so much the latter as I only have an unarmed skill of 10)

Now I want to know when you guys save if ever.
same here, i have over 200 saves on f nv from just being precautious to all the amounts of different paths that could be taken or what could be sitting around the corner

(fuck black mountain. seriously. fuck it. dont go near it if you aren't super OP and have boone with you)

Depends on the genre.
In FPSs (especially those of the horror variant) I save every 10 steps because I'm such a pussy.
In RTSs I save once or twice per mission, in RPGs mostly before conversations.

If there's a quicksave button, I quicksave like mad. Otherwise, I ignore the conventional menu save-system (until I finish the playing session), which has caused me endless annoyances when a game crashes before I save it.

I love autosave. I remember the pain of accidentally turning your GameBoy off before saving on Pokemon. I have to do routes 18-22 again? Arrgh!

In Doom 3, I save roughly once every 20 seconds. Seriously...

My save folder is larger than the actual game...
Oh I'm with you there.....

I think my quick save button stopped responding after my 4th playthrough

I usually only save when I turn off the game.

I am ok with state saving regularly in flash games and Mario hacks. But I am really against it in retail games.

Usually... too late.

Either that or just before I go into combat, or wandering the wastelands.

Final Fantasy XIII, never apart from before the final boss and when my session is nearing an end.

Every other game where there is not unlimited continues. Every Chance I f**king get!
